Byrdhouse components

Hi

I want to use the best quality components for my build. Does anyone have any advice? The PedalPCB parts list just gives the value.

Tayda will be your best bet. For resistors, use 1/4 watt metal film resistors. For capacitors use polyester film for non-polarised (generally anything in nanofarads, but check build docs) and electrolytic for polarised (generally for microfarads, but again, check to confirm).
For the 470p you can use either MLCC or ceramic. I normally use ceramic, but they're known to be a little less reliable.

You can get everything else from Tayda except for the IC. NTE996 can be substituted for CA3080 or LM3080. I got a few CA3080's from ebay and they've worked out fine for me. If you don't want to take the risk you'll have to do some more shopping around since these seem to be obsolete parts.

I wouldn’t say Tayda has the best quality components...They have cheap and plentiful components! Places like DigiKey, Mouser or smallbear will have better quality choices.

Not to say some Tayda parts aren’t decent, I still buy pots, resistors, diodes (not GE) and some film caps from them but ever since I stopped buying electrolytic capacitors from them 99% of my builds stopped having issues.

Beautiful! Thanks so much. I've built a couple of pedals from kits but never sourced my own components so your help is invaluable. Thanks again. D

Not a problem! If you're having trouble sourcing the IC, let me know and I can post you the spares I have. I don't think I'll need them and finding discontinued parts can be a pain.

If you can wait a little more, Tayda will probably have a 15% off sale later this month. So fill up your shopping cart and there will likely be a post on the forum when the sale comes up.

I recommend 1/8W MF resistors from Tayda or Mouser. The 1/4 W resistors don't fit every board. Since they are one or two cents apiece in quantity, get 50-100 of each value you need for this build. That way, you'll have some for the next build. I get capacitors from multiple sources: Tayda, Small Bear, DigiKey, Mouser and Electronic Goldmine. EG is a surplus dealer. They have good stuff, but the inventory is constantly changing. Get on their mailing list and when you see something you need or might need, jump on it. I get pots from SB & Tayda. Check Tayda's FB page for sales announcements.

I've been buying the Stackpole 1/4 watt resistors from Digikey, same size as the 1/8 watt, I think someone here posted about them

Those are good resistors and I have used them too. A little more expensive, but not going to break the bank. The power dissipated in the resistors in these circuits is so small that 1/4W or 1/8W doesn't matter. Only body size matters.
