I am new to diy pedals. I noticed on the majority of the build docs that it mentions the value but not the type of capacitor to use for each build. How do I know to use a ceramic vs a film vs an electrolytic? My first build didn’t work and I want to make sure my next one has a chance. Thanks.

Since you're new to components, especially capacitors, when using electrolytic they're polarized meaning they have a + and a - like a battery so they need installed properly or they can go boom...or just fail. Just match the plus + lead on the cap to the silkscreen on the PCB. Sorry if you already knew this!
