Clang Pedals Recommendations

Just built up DeadendFX (get well soon!) Dilligaf/Infanem Driving Notion, I'm really enjoying the seperation between the clangy harmonic high side and blown-out wooly low end side!
I've never listened to Big Black or anything Albini, but I started guitar learning Nirvana riffs through a ratty Traynor TS-50 so the tone is somewhat familiar...

So far all clang pedals I've tried

• Harmonic Perc (stock giblet values) (I feel like I currently dont have the right mods but its much more clangy after a buffer)
• Turbo Rat (Suprisingly, I didnt like)
• DeadendFX Dilligaf (Stacks well as a slicon chainsaw doom fuzz too)
• DeadendFX Charonium/LAL Misty Cave (WIP, not finished yet, still waiting on clock)

Stuff I'm looking at (let me know if you have experience with these designs!)

• IVP Tube Voice/Pedalpcb Topographer
• AionFX TS-50 Pre
• Harmonic Perc (sub-octave mods + starve ctrl)
• Aleph Null Peacock

Clang conseussiers, let me know if I am missing anything, or there is a design I should priortize looking into!

DeadendFX Charonium/LAL Misty Cave (WIP, not finished yet, still waiting on clock)

This is an awesome circuit, great for fixed flange / filter matrix, but it will not do the clang.

Turbo Rat (Suprisingly, I didnt like)

If you're able, try a TL070 or 71, and replace one of the LEDs with a standard silicon (currently my favorite take on the Rat)

The Topographer is a good choice, but not having the full four band parametric eq it can't get quite scrongly enough on its own. It is a rad circuit, though, and stacks wonderfully with everything I've tried, both pre and post

The Peacock is amazing, and you should build one just for posterity's sake. I've taken to building a modified version of the Percolator side whenever I get a request for an HP circuit.
Here's the most recent one I've done. It's built on the Antithesis board, and has an added clean blend

Haven't played with the TS-50 or Harmonic Perc, so can't comment on those.


As for other recommendations- the Dagger / Scabbard is pretty cool if dialed in for clangier tones.
The Punkifier / Pacifier can also do the layered jangle wool thing pretty well. I've got a modified version built up that I'll try to get a build report / demo on in the next couple days

Yea, I was using the bog standard OP07 and red LED, Ill definitely try that combo out! I have everything socketed on a Dirtmonger board so it should be a easy swap

Damnn ok, I might hold off on until I have the willpower to tackle the full IVP from Aion... I feel like the filter design is like 90% of what I'm expecting from the sound

I just started learning layouts in KiCad today, I might try developing my own parallel HP/Mutli-RAT + op-amp panning blend...
What circuit did you use for your clean blend for the HP in the demo?

Looking forward to that build report! I've also been stalking to your modded OS-2/Proletariat from your demos... is that also similar to the Punkifier in the whole parallel distortion/OD character?

In my experiments running an HP and Rat in parallel, the Rat side (in stock configuration) easily overpowers the HP. It's more the huge mid spike than just volume
I used the MAE Utility Blender board, it's JFET based.

The Scabbard is definitely Rat like. Doesn't get quite as fuzzy and unhinged as a Rat without a few tweaks, though.

Yeah, proletariat does the parallel thing. But, being it's more SD-1 / Rat based, it doesn't quite do clang. The OD side does do a nice fuzzy jangle kinda sound, though

Ive actually been consolidating a master HP BOM for the overlap in between:
DGWVI Half Peacock/Percolation Station mods + pedalbuilder’s Latent Lemon Hurts Mods + KO Amps’ Wax Harmonic Mods (cap input blend, oscillation trim)

I’ll try add those clang related HP mods to the percolation station schematic,

I havent been able to try out all the HP mods tho, im still missing some of the components… I didnt realize how far the Harmonic Percolator rabbit hole goes

I've pieced together what I understand DGWVI's preferred values to be for the Percolation Station. Modified values are in red.

C3 and C6 are 2.2uf. C4 is 22uf, but you can go higher for more splatty low end
One of the Diodes is a Red LED, the other is usually ~1/3 the vf of the LED

For what it’s worth, I put the one knob clang Alec has (mask audio electronics) in the same box with the misty cave clone and it was fucking awesome. Percs clean up so well and the misty cave has a blend so only one switch was necessary. I sold that but I want to do it again with an order switch cause I love me some reverb before fuzz.

I've got a few of those OKCs, and a dead end order coming up

Edit to add- I consider a buffer crucial for the nasty clang. Without it, the HP is pretty dull sounding, in my opinion. A lot of people seem to overlook that Steve had an always on noise gate running into his Percolator
