I built it as per Chuck's schematic. Except I used a 10µF cap at C4, BAT46 diodes, a B100K pot for Gain and 2N5088 transistors. Otherwise absolutely identical.
I quite like this one. Gnarly slightly sludgey overdrive with a hint of fuzz.
I'm going to have to try that one out... I've been clearing out breadboards as I have about 3 circuits I want to test out... including my next "semi-original" project...
Built one of these and it sounds incredible. Thank you so much for providing this PCB, and for your good ears in tweaking the circuit. I won't post a picture since my build is kind of ugly... but I was wondering if, like the EQD original, you can run this at 18v for more headroom. Would it fry the circuit?
Running either the stock Chrysalis or this mod at +18V will not increase headroom. It reduces the headroom in Q2 because it upsets the biasing. As long as C9 is rated for at least 25V, it won't hurt anything.
