Explain like I'm 5, what is going on in this pedal to make is sound like this, please?

Ive gotten into the habit of listening to pedal demos on my long commute, so I miss the text a lot of the time. I should do better.

Hey you! 5 year old kid! put that damn guitar pedal down! you'll put your eye out with that thing!
Must be the kid's dad's guitar from the '80s...

Well, the headstock of many HSS "Strat"-ish guitars were toothpicsks...

DOES YOUR DAD KNOW YOU GOT HIS GUITAR OUT FROM UNDER HIS BED?

Somebody gonna getta whuppin' if he comes home and catches you!

The PPCB Minnow might also be worth a look. It’s based on a Tom Oberheim designed filter, and it’s got some cool modulation options as well.

The Korg MS-20 filter is another synth classic that seems to pop up in DIY somewhat frequently. Not sure if anyone currently sells a guitar friendly PCB.

I picked up this kit: https://www.cctv.fm/product-page/ms...D6U0QC_pf7i_zOw_hVg03KAIeLW0CxQGHFtYdcrlan7bo
that I’m planning to turn into a pedal. Maybe try to kludge a little envelope follower and/or LFO circuit in there while I’m at it.

MS-420 looks cool, I'll have to look further into that.

GUITAR FRIENDLY?
Are we talking about — on casual good-natured acquaintance, on good terms, chummy, truly close-friends, friendly-with-benefits or... ?

ATOMIC DUCK, based on Frostwave's Funk-A-Duck, by DeadEndFX.

Given that's from DEFX, it's debatable whether or not the PCB is "friendly".

Maybe the DEFX TRESONATOR, based on Frostwave's "Resonator" that's also based on the MS-20 — the Tresonator is much more friendly, it's meant for a wah enclosure, but who says it has to to go in a wah-shell? I have a Tresonator to build up. So much to do, so little time left in life.
Also, DEFX has now the Q2, a conventional pedal-based PCB of the Frostwave Resonator — whether the PCB is guitar friendly (meant to fit a Hammond 1590D or similar), well once again that's subjective.

Vero of the Frostwave Funk-A-Duck is here, with thanks to Digi2T from DEFX. I have 2 versions of this Vero layout, for some reason.

BARN OWL, by Peddler Effects. MUCH more sensible-sized — fits a 1590BBS portrait enclosure. I believe @DGWVI has a build-report of this PCB. I'm aiming to get to this, eventually, hopefully before the next Millennium.

KS-20, by Kassutronics, is meant for Eurorack (or similar), not sure if there's still pre-fabbed DIY-PCBs available for it or not, but everything needed to full-DIY was put up on GITHUB.

Here's somebody that used an LM13700, Schmitzbits, for an MS-20 based effort. Schematic in the link.

DiabloChris6's Madbean thread about his Somnambulist HPF based on the MS-20. Looks like he made his own PCB, and he does have some OSHPARK builds available, but I don't know if the Somnambulist's MS-20 circ is amongst them. [*checks*] NOPE!

There's Dave's Perf Layout from Effects Layouts. (I just checked his shop, and he hasn't put a PCB together for this yet):

I've got a bunch more of MS-20 circuit snippets and fragments and related Vero or Perf on my HardDrive, anybody that wants to explore further is welcome to hit me up for those snippets and or discussion — just know that while I have the detritus of the Internet on my HD, doesn't mean I'm knowledgable about all of it (that's what I'm working on, gaining knowledge).

I never did get to a demo of that unit 😅
It was cool, but the expression input was way too finicky for me. I've got another board on hand that I wanna try some other stuff at point

Another rad one, that doesn't get mentioned a lot is the Anderton Super Tone Control / Pro-Filter

Here's my build report with a demo (relevant bits @~1:13)
