KNOW YOUR GLACIERS 101 (possible names for the PCB)
ATHABASCA GLACIER — one of the bigger glaciers in the Columbia Icefield, my favourite probably because I've been to it so many times whilst growing up.
Just an online pic pulled from "pintrest". Put the knobs up in the sky (easily visible labelling) and have a mod on a stomper bottom left and bypass stomper lower right and you've still enough room to squeeze in the name above the lip of the mountain-saddle.
PASSU GLACIER — Glacier overlooks the south of Passu village, Pakistan. The peaks around Passu are inspiring spires and if there were a Godot, this would be Godot's own cathedral. "
If by Godot I had meant God I would have said God, and not Godot."
Passu glacier links to Batura Glacier and many other glaciers of the region,
some of the biggest glaciers in the world. I bet there's someone up there now, still waiting for him. He is coming, isn't he?
To have lived is not enough for me...
...I have to talk about it.
"We should turn resolutely towards Nature."
"Let us do something, while we have the chance! ... Let us make the most of it, before it is too late! Let us represent worthily for one the foul brood to which a cruel fate consigned us!"
Thought I'd include the above pic (found online), 'cause all the glacier shots begin to look alike.
The infamous Passu Bridge (pics found online):
We crossed this bridge (you can find it on google maps "passu suspension bridge") with our bikes and explored the area on the opposite side; however, the wind had picked up on our return and I took a photo from about where the supports are of my friend — about where the person in the pic is — and his long hair (past shoulder length) and his BIKE both were 90º perpendicular to torso.
It was dodgy crossing the thing when it was calm, but coming back with the wind whipping it back and forth... At the time, this was the only bridge over to these villages, made from scrap-wood and wire — good thing we all had our tetanus-shots. Bike gloves helped protect hands from the bare wire... I need to get that slide digitised.
Just prior to our arrival in Passu, we had just explored the ...
HOPAR GLACIER — Accessed via the Nagar Valley. Out of Pakistan's 7253 glaciers, it's not a big one, but memorable for me as I once MTB'd to its moraine-edge. That was a fantastic after-supper ride, very technical with tight switchbacks. Also known as Bualtar Glacier, it's not far from the 49-kilometre-long HISPER and 57-kilometre-long BALTURA, both spilling into the stunningly beautiful Hunza Valley. Batura is one of the longest-biggest glaciers outside of the polar regions. It's been a while since that trip, but I just had a look on Google maps and can zoom in to exactly where we rode!
Great MTBing along the sides of the ice. (online pic)

Alas, I have not been to this one, but must mention it:
LAMBERT FISHER — biggest in the world, Antarctica.
