Check the newest docs for the switching board, I got the impression that the v3 enables you to put the jacks wherever you want.

The SPS series appears to have top jacks. I also think top jacks are doable with extreme caution using the older boards if you do a 125b instead of 1590b

SPS builds are top jacks with the switching board. It’s a 1590B2.

Dumb question, but how do I know what's an SPS series project or not? I don't see that distinction over at Madbean's.

I was looking at the Old School, which uses the v3 switching board, so I think I could get away with whatever positioning I wanted (in a 125b). That said, not sure I have the relay or the specific cap sizes the doc mentions either and will be a while before I need another Mouser order.

Nothing at Madbean is SPS series yet. The SPS series is the most recent version of all of the circuits, and for a lot of them the easiest way to tell is that it uses full sized pots for all knobs instead of the little plastic shaft trimmers.

Possibly, unless I'm able to get the new redesigned version with the SPS system. Not sure where I am with Peter on that right now. I need to touch base with him.
Please put it back in stock. I've been meaning to buy one but missed out on this one.

The Windbag (VFE Yodeller) is SPS, or at least not like the older compact VFE layouts.

EDIT: NOT SPS!

I bet part of the consideration for the SP-66 was its size — the original VFEs all fit 1590B; besides that, Peter didn't often skimp on components —
people got a lot of bang for their buck with his pedals, IMO.

Peter confirms size was the reason for going with the more expensive transformer in previous versions in his video: “Woodchipper SPS audio circuit walkthrough” (linked in the WoodChipper documentation.)

PvR said:
“I want to note that compared to the previous version of the Woodchipper, because this one uses top-mounted jacks and has a deeper enclosure, I was able to spec and source a transformer that is physically larger and actually costs less money than the military spec one that I had to find that was the only size that would fit in the other ones and had the right specs so this is going back closer to the original design and intention because I have the space now.”

Rejoice! No apparent advantage in using an $18 transformer.

That was the exception I was thinking of when I said “for a lot of them”. I thought there was one other that was laid out with all full sized pots but isn’t SPS, but I couldn’t remember for sure
I think it may have been the StandOut, which was very briefly offered when MadBean first started serving up the VFE boards.

Thanks for asking dude! Not gonna lie, I'm having a pretty rough time. Recovery is going to take a few months rather days or weeks. So, I'm pretty frustrated at times. But my attitude and outlook is very positive. Basically I just want to get back to work because it keeps me centered. I'm being looked after very well though so it will turn out fine.
Glad to hear man, sounds like it was pretty scary. Anything we can do to help?
