What's funny is I've felt that way since long before the kids came along.

I had a pretty crappy day today. Not terrible but not great. This, however, just put a massive fucking grin on my face

My wife and I kid each other that we are old before our time - we've taken to walking down to the local lake to watch the birds every Sunday. It's spring here and we have a breeding pair of black swans there. So it's been amazing to watch how quickly the three cygnets grow - the white fuzz is being taken over by black feathers now and they all have long, swan-like necks now. They're almost the size of their parents.
A few weeks ago I found some binoculars in a drawer and I don't know where they came from. But they're pretty decent quality and using them to see all of the baby ducks and things is fantastic. Yup, we're getting old. My wife loves seeing the birds grow up.
As we live in Western Australia we don't have squirrels or any mammals locally which will show themselves during the day. So it's either watching the birds or walking through a park to see snakes and lizards. I suppose we could go to a nearby golf course to see the kangaroos - and there's a cemetery not too far away which sometimes gets swamped with roos...
