I fell in love with an 808 build.... Had this little green screamer build on and off my board and the last few weeks I have been using it as my second stage.... Running a Mahayana on all the time right now just as a tone sweetener over my clean blackface tonex model by Amalgam. Using the little green scream machine with drive about 1' o clock to push into pretty decent crunch for my rhythm tones playing live .... I've never got along with a tube screamer... it just never " Did" it for me....

welcome.
despite how trendy it is to hate tube screamers, whatever, i always thought they’re great.
should try an SD-1 while you’re at it @swelchy
Ironically I just built an SD-1 recently..... Honestly didn't give it a ton of play time.. Just verified it worked when I was testing 6-7 builds... I will go back and revisit it...

I think some expect these types of ODs to be the foundation of their tone and are inevitably disappointed because that’s not what they were meant to to be, your amp is your tonal foundation pedals like the 808 shine as an enhancement. Unless you have an Orange… those two don’t seem to get along very well in my experience.

Love my little TS Mini (808 in a mini enclosure). Adding a CV7003 fuzz gives it some adjustable grit in the distortion - from just a little unsmoothing to cranked fuzz at the volume. Without the fuzz it can be a little too sterile.

Interesting. I have an OR15 that I used for a couple of years playing hard rock / punk type stuff. I ran the volume all the way up and the gain at about 11 o'clock. I tried various overdrive pedals to boost. The Tube Screamer mini was the one I liked the most.

I made the SD-1 not too long ago. I liked it more than an 808 or the Bad Monkey.

My favorite is still the Fortin-modded TS808 (PPCB Mean Green Metal Machine). Not as smooth as the SD-1. But the hump has a touch more low end, and it’s LOUD. If a TS808 is a tube screamer, then the fortin one is a tube punisher or tube torturer.

There is always an exception to the rule, person taste and style is always a factor. I just noticed people I know with rockerverbs and OR50s seem to hate them, I think because they are already mid forward voiced amps and then you boost the mids it gets nasty in not a good way. I even know someone with a tiny terror that said he always had possible impedance issues with TS pedals (squealing).

yeah I read that and said "that's too many mids"
