Je T’aime in a tiny package

I built the Je T’aime as a bit of an experiment. Part 1 was to build something that was basically the fewest parts to make an op-amp work, and Part 2, make fit in a 1590A enclosure. This circuit is the jumping off point for a million variations so I figured I’d build it stock first and then mess with it. The 1590A was just to see if I could do it.

Which brings me to the old saying. Just because it can be done, doesn’t mean it should be done. It was pretty much more hassle than it was worth stuffing all of that in there, but it got done. It works with the exception of the LED, and it’s not worth the trouble to unpack that tiny little thing to troubleshoot and fix it.

With all that said it works and I like it. With the knob all the way down it’s like an always on boost that gets a little more out of your sound. From there it goes from clean boost, to no-so-clean boost, to dirty boost, to a distortion box. I see using it as the dirty boost. Then there’s all of the tweaks, mods, and tone shaping that could be done on another project.

As for the paint, it was inspired by the Pedal Name Generator thread. On my first spin it gave me “Mini Gain Licker” so I ran with it. The lick made me go the Pokémon route, and if you’re going there, the blue splatter is a bonus.
