Can anyone tell me what the 10r resistor connected between the 1kb fuzz pot and the 22uf cap is actually doing? Is it changing the taper of the pot or something else?

That's exactly what it's there for. Sometimes FFs can oscillate

Thanks, I've been thinking about that part for a few days and wasn't sure what it was actually doing.

I really like the JHF1, it's definitely going to replace my bc183 sun face clone when I get it finished. It's still on a breadboard at the minute.

I still don't get it. I get that the cap C2 is stopping some screeching, but the 10Ω is such a small value and coming off the wiper of P1...
What is R5 really doing with C2, dancing about architecture?

R5 and C2 form a low pass filter. R5, among other things, works with C2 to set a corner frequency and helps set AC current.
