Just ordered parts for my next 4 builds...

I took a few months off building pedals to focus on playing more guitar, but I'm excited to get building again. I just ordered parts for Modus Operandi, Octarock (have to replace the one I gave to my dad), Frost Drive (because I only have 1 tubescreamer), and a footswitch for more looper.

I had to take some time (and financial resources) to get through the holidays and then do some major car repairs. Now I have a rather large order from Tayda arriving today and I'm chomping at the bit to build a bunch of new stuff. I ordered enough parts for 8 or so boards that are still in my PPCB cart- plus the 7 I've been sitting on at home.

I hadn't built anything in months either until I finished up the blues breaker I built a couple days ago. Feels good to be back at it. Earlier this week I made my first Tayda order in months.

Finished the first one this weekend without issue. Insane amount of gain. I see why it was wired with four jacks originally, not sure how much I would use them in series, other than to have two settings, or one as a boost maybe. I wired mine in series, may consider going to four jacks on future builds.

Yep same. Sometimes after putting on my clown makeup and putting in a tiny order, I realize that I "didn't add that other thing I needed." I can't put any more clown makeup over this clown makeup!

LOL, this has happened to me too. For these I builds I ordered from Tayda and Mouser, and when everything is almost complete I will place a clean up order from Smallbear to get the remaining parts, and anything I missed.

I do pretty much the same, except I use StompBoxParts over Small Bear these days. small Bear always seems to be out of stock of what I need anymore. Sad because I always liked using them.
I’ve also tacked on extras on to one of my wife’s multiple daily Amazon orders. Won’t buy critical ICs from them, but 1/4” jacks, power jacks, LEDs, IC sockets, trimpots and even the occasional LDR are fair game

Not too steer it further in this direction, but does any vendor who's not a major distributor (e.g. Mouser, DigiKey) actually ship semiconductors in real ESD bags? The gray mylar-looking and rated ones?

I mean, the pink/other resistant bags are a step up from sandwich bags, but they still dont protect from static charge buildup like the true bags do. (Go watch that eevblog video about it)

I haven't had an esd-related failure yet, but the nagging feeling is always there.

I did kind of the opposite of my meme with this Tayda order: I think every 9mm pot was a dupe (that I don't need for other projects), and every diode I thought I was out of was just in a different place—my reward for snap cleaning: I can never remember if it doesn't go back into its "correct" pace.

Do we have a "parts jar" thread for quick, one-off type missing parts like we have on mbp forum? That's a good quick "I forgot this one value; I only need two of them, and then I'll never use it again." situation fix. I know there's the "rare" parts thread.

The parts jar thread sounds cool, as long as folks give as much as they receive.

I don’t often get unwanted duplicates as I keep a pretty tight inventory spreadsheet of parts… I guess my inner “Sheldon” (fans of “The Big Bang Theory” will understand). It’s kind of sick how I am with it lol.

As for the ESD, I know if ordering MosFets or other esd sensitive, Tayda will ship it on the conductive strip tape, and StompBoxParts does put ICs etc in foam, which I assume to be ESD safe.
I know no matter who the source is, all of my semis go in 5x7 Mylar bags and placed in order in a plastic shoe box, so they are at least safe at home.

BooBoo Bear will happily ship your $17 NOS BBDs in plain clear plastic bags nowadays. And then not respond to your respectful though lengthy 2 page email.
The nextorder I added a note to please not ship semiconductors in non-esd bags and it was highlighted on my invoice and they abided. But I have to wonder about any operation that would do that in the first place. Why are practices not in place to prevent that from happening. Notation of my request shouldn't be a necessity.
Mylar bags in bulk are only ~3-5cents/ea. I don't get it.
I keep these around for my inventory.

I still need to track down a binder for those you sent. I strangely have maybe one hands fingers worth of binders in the whole house; none of them large enough.


Definitely store mine, like you do, first in the esd bags. Right now the bags are in jlc boxes…

After that eevblog video pretty much everything went into them. Thankfully ordering such small quantities from Mouser means one can cram each bag with more valuables.

But I did use these for components before until that one day I spilled them and decided on a different solution.

Yeah. Spilling is no fun. I've been lucky so far but I do it as much for space as anything else. It's also nice that everything is within arm's reach.
