Seems I'm always following in the footsteps of @Guardians of the analog with his constant FOMO'ing me with his most recent escapades.
I built the Distortion + many years ago when I was just starting out.
That first one I built to DOD250 spec's but I added the clipping option of using GE diodes.
It took a while to grow on me but eventually I came around to really liking it even though it was a bit goofy in the build.
The DOD250 "Gray Box" spec has a bit more mid-range and bass than the straight up MXR version of the Dist+.
So why build another one? Well, Chris was gushing about his new build. And I just happened to have a board for it from @Audandash (thanks dude!!)
So I built one to Distortion + specs, no optional clippers. I used an unmatched set of Ge diodes. (Because they needed to be used
)
It sounds like a Distortion + should. I've never tried pushing a dirty amp with one before so I've been playing around with that.
It's a bit too much gain for me using it that way. But I've found that it sounds pretty killer running a Boss OD-1 in front of it.
So, this is a recommended build if you want to be JUST LIKE CHRIS!!!
