Kliché Mini

I love it when it works perfectly first time.

Eastern Bloc D9E diodes.

I've never seen a real Klon Centaur, and even a KTR is ridiculously expensive where I live, but I do have a Mosky Golden Horse. The Kliché Mini sounds better than that, though there's nothing wrong with the Mosky.

This is about as close as I'd get to the original's colour scheme.

Gut shot note: I soldered the middle prong of the tone pot on the other side of the board because it was easier to reach there. Looks like it isn't soldered but it is quite securely attached.

I just spent an hour or so comparing this one to the other five overdrive pedals I own. Tried setting them so they all sounded as similar as possible.

They all sound different. The differences are subtle but not imaginary. The Mosky Golden Horse was closest, which is no surprise. The others are a slightly modified early 80s Boss OD1, a Caline Pure Sky, and the Kokko versions of a Tube Screamer and Blues Breaker.

Conclusion: The new one sounds best, and I'm pretty sure that isn't just a honeymoon thing. There's a clarity to the top end that isn't there in the others. It's more articulate. The others all have a little more harshness in the upper mids that I can't dial out.

Obviously we all have our preferences, but this one is really ticking the box for me.

Cool artwork. I have the Mosky myself and find it is a bit noisey and a little harsh but I don't use it with the gain up much at all. I wonder if I had a better version if I would use it more. I am just getting into pedal building and having option paralysis. I've selected about 10 projects and think I should just do a fuzz 1st, then a Barbershop to see if I can successfully make anything.

The Kliche is a little more advanced, I'd say make a few simpler ones first to get the hang of it. The Chop Shop looks pretty simple but intriguing, and I could easily add it to my own list... biasing the J201s isn't hard to do with a decent multimeter.
