SOLVED Kliche' (Cenatur clone) - Good bypass, but low volume when engaged - [Gain pot was grounding out on led bezel]

Hey

Working on a Kliche' for a friend and the bypass sounds right, but the volume drops way way down when engaged. I thought I might have melted the battery red lead when I soldered the pcb's hot wire to the jack. The missing parts are mounted underneath to fit them better. Just digging in to this...

PS. I did do a quick voltage check and the 9V power coming from the wall wart is that same as what the pcb is seeing. When I engage the (older) battery I only see around 7.5V and it is testing around 9.20V.

I just unsoldered the battery lead, and now it sounds fine. Could it be a bad battery clip cable? The sound is similar to an instrument cable I poorly built. A few months ago I bought some Mogami wire and made a few cables, but one is really much quieter than the others. I haven't gotten around to fixing it. Could a bad or incomplete solder joint do that?

Very weird. I thought I had it fixed. I put resoldered the battery clip wires, tightened all the nuts and same thing...big volume drop. This was with no battery attached, but clip installed.

Forgot to mention that I messed up and drilled the output jack hole to 1/2" by not paying attention. I thought I could fix it by putting a washer on both sides of the hole, so maybe the jack is not making a ground connection and thus the drop in signal, but the bypass is good and strong, so I'm lost again...need beer

OMFG! Beer works! The Gain pot is touching the metal LED bezel! When I unscrewed the nut of the gain pot and flex the pcb it pops. When engaged its is obvious, but when bypassed, it pops, but doesn't effect the level! Smoke'em if you gottem!
