The EQD hype machine convinced me to build yet another muff.
This one gave me some trouble. It worked right away, but (at least on bass) it was doing some weird sagging and sputtering that didn’t seem right to me. After the third re-boxing and a swap at Robert’s suggestion from 2n5089 to 2n3904 in q4, it’s much tamer and I’m happy with it.
Here’s a troubleshooting thread if you’re interested in all the gory details.
I’ve been using a matte clear coat over my lettering for a while, and while I like the matte finish a lot, it sometimes looks a little weird over these bright sparkle colors. In this case I like how it looks kinda like a brick.

In honor of the big red big muff everyone’s talking about, I thought I’d throw this Liquid Crystal Fuzz together in a red box.
Everything works, but it sounds bad.
It’s doing some weird saggy, bloomy, sputtery stuff that I’m pretty sure isn’t right.
I pulled it back out of the box and did a component check and a careful solder inspection and everything looks okay there.
I got 100 of these cool blue-face Motorola 2n3904s from the small bear “parts for a penny” sale, and it’s the first time I tried em. So I’m a little irrationally suspicious of those.
Right now I’m thinking I’ll pull...
