Low Tide modulator powering, but not working/making weird sound

Hi all,

just finished (not sure if you can call it that when nothing works yet) a Low Tide pedal. Figured it was time for a step up in difficulty after completing a few easier overdrive/fuzz pedals, but I might have bitten off more than I could chew here.

The pedal powers up but unfortunately the sound is anything but musical!

The best way I can describe what I'm getting here is that when a note is played on the guitar the resulting sound is very low volume compared to the bypassed signal and gives an initial boom/pop which then changes into a fizzy sound before cutting out quickly.

A few things to note. Due to the supplies that were available from Tayda at the time that I put in the order the following substitutions were made:

LM258P was substituted with LM358P
MCP602 was substituted with NE5532
2SK208-Y was substituted with MMBFJ201

These changes were based on things I had read in other forum posts. However, a quick bit of AI investigation suggested that the NE5532 and MMBFJ201 substitutions were the cause of the issues.

Before I jump at the musings of our AI overlords I wanted to see whether the brilliant brains trust here could see any clear issue with my build from the picture below. I'm aware that in a board with so many pieces troubleshooting can be very hard, but perhaps there is something obvious I have missed.

I did also accidentally solder on some sockets for the 2SK208-Y before I realised this wasn't necessary. But I wouldn't imagine that an unfilled socket would be the cause of these issue, right?

Please note as well that I did attempt to bias the pedal in case that was the issue, but the sounds being provided did not change despite following the instructions given on biasing the Low Tide on another forum post.

I'd be grateful for any sage advice! Thanks!
