Why are Americans obsessed with the American flag? Whenever I've been to the US the flag is everywhere. Is it in case you forget which country you're in? I don't think i've been to another country where the national flag is on display everywhere like that. Not ragging, just curious.
It's an American pride thing. It's a symbol and flying it is reinforcement of everything we hold dear and ascribe to. good and bad.
The mere suggestion that there's such oversaturation of its presence is an affront to those whose whole identity is wrapped in it, though they live a contradiction.
It's become more of a weapon than a banner of the freedom it should represent, a "get in step!" bludgeon.
If you don't wave it at all, or enough, etc. you're not a real American.
If you burn it, you're a terrorist; despite it being within your first amendment rights to do so.
Never mind that some of the same foaming at the mouth zealots will flagrantly break the actual federal flag code, turning it into shirts, pants, underpants, drapes, shower curtains, doormats, and other aberrations and affrontaries, and yell "I do what I want," when you point it out.
To me it's a symbol, and not a toy or confetti to spray everywhere you see fit. I love my country, but boy a helluva lot of people who wave our flag sure don't—not truly, anyway.
