Most common annoyances

Here is my list of aggravations, no particular order:

Enclosure drilling
Enclosure finishing
#@#&€π√ing DC jack
Measure once, cut twice, still too short
Iron timeout
Desoldering six lug pots
Waterslide decals and air bubbles
Waiting for orders from Tayda
Waiting for orders from Mouser
Waiting for orders from eBay
(My USPS usually arrives around 6:30 pm, too late to play with parts)
Realizing I forgot to order THAT one part and have to decide if I want to wait weeks or step up and pay 2nd Day Air

Please feel free to join in. I'm just getting started so will be appending soon enough. Most likely while waiting for parts....

I thought I hated this hobby.

I love populating PCBs and modding circuits.
This past year, I've spent more time trying to get better and more proactive about that. Ive learned enough illustrator to be able to do some basic labeling and I could send that off to tayda... But I can label with a market...
But "artwork" is still a pain. Trying to work out etching. Again. A pain this far.
I've actually never tried waterslide. I bought some slide sheets(¿) a long time ago and can't find them. Refuse to buy more as I'll find the first ones right after they arrive ...
So I guess enclosures are frustrating. But I'm learning and slowly getting better. I guess it's more the learning process that has its frustrating moments, but mistakes are how we learn. Trying to embrace the victories when they come.
But that's any hobby. Try woodworking. Sanding sucks. No one likes sanding. If you find someone who enjoys sanding, run!

Need chainsaw pics 👀

Have a pull-on somewhere outside. It's only used for abuse anymore(in the dirst stumping, etc)Mainly use the Echo now days. Shitty back so I only manually split when I have to(large rounds I dont want to carry whole).
Went through ~2.5 cord last winter. We spent ~2 weeks near or below 0 and I was burning constantly. Normally only burn at night when it's sub 30.
My 88 built electrically heated stick house isn't made for sub 0. Electric bill that month was almost 900 with me shoveling hardwood.

Haha! Good list.

I used to love the creative challenge of doing art work. Now I am generally bored by it.

HATE drilling enclosures.
HATE painting enclosures.

Doing an enclosure justice takes wayyyyy longer than building the circuit.

One day when I'm smart I'm I'll build my enclosure first. Then I'll decide what circuit to put in it.

Once I learned that you could cut out the inserts of sockets and solder those in instead for a slicker look (especially when socking caps of which the holes are too far apart)...

(I know I can buy them separately, but I got stock to clear first!) 1000063091.jpg

I started doing this for auditioning transistors(while ~$100 of mill-max to-5 sockets sit in the drawer). It's the easiest way to pull them out later once the transistor is selected.
If you use some longer ones, they'll clean out 90% of the solder on their way out.

I don't think there's anything I really hate about building pedals. I don't mind waiting for shipments - I'm not in any particular hurry usually. I quite like drilling enclosures because I have a drill press and clamp a fence to the base to hold the enclosure up against. So the holes are generally quite accurate. 😜

It IS a bummer when you build a huge circuit only to find out you really don't like it (hello Friedman and Co boards!). And realising that you just beautifully soldered a wrong value pot to a PCB is a pain.

I can't be bothered designing graphics so I don't. But I like doing off-board wiring. I like coming up with mods both simple and complex, and enjoy getting help from wiser heads. Even troubleshooting is ok by me, even if it can be frustrating when you just wanna hear the damn thing!
