Mouser BOMs with better parts quality?

I was thinking about this.

Here in Europe ordering a Musikding kit of a pedal PCB project is normally about the same price as ordering the bits.
It gets cheaper as you order more parts obviously , but your first project ordering 100 1k ohm resistors seems a bit much.

But Musikding is good... someone should start an American version.
I made the mistake of giving Musikding a try, although Klaus seems to be a nice guy the whole thing was an absolute nightmare. Lack of communication, shipping delays, lost shipments, wrong parts, missing parts. At best it was a disorganized mess, that took over 6 months and waaay more emails than it should have. to get all the correct parts for a complete kit…. Never again.

I've made a dozen or so of his kits (mostly PPCB projects and a few Aion) I think I've had 2 mistakes

there were multiple mistakes with the one and only order I made, I will give him this he is not out to get anyone and is a very pleasant guy to talk to when you can get him to respond. I had poked fun at Musikding a few times for issues others have had ordering or building his kits. So I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt put my money where my mouth was and ordered quite possibly the most ambitious project he has to offer. I get mistakes happen but problems seem to happen far too frequently with musikding kits.

I’ve actually considered doing this but like @vigilante398 said, giant headaches could abound and just make it not worth it. In order to make it worth the time, the cost has to be low, so buying in bulk is the only real option. I thought maybe started with just a couple of options might be feasible - pick just 2-3 PCBs that are popular (Klon, Benson Pre, Timmy, Morning Glory, etc) that also have readily available parts in bulk.

I also thought it would be cool to offer some different options for enclosure/build services:

- built entirely with powder coated/UV printed enclosure (essentially just a stock pedal)
- parts kit with pre-drilled/powder coated/UV printed enclosure
- parts kit with pre-drilled bare enclosure
- parts kit with no enclosure

Would be cool, just wish I had the time to start it up

Stompbox parts is doing 6 kits in the US. Pricing looks pretty reasonable for a drilled enclosure and the trouble of assembling a kit.

I imagine part of their strategy is that it's in their interest to get people hooked on pedal building.

Damn that's a more reasonable price than I expected. That's almost on par with byoc or GGG from 10 or 15 years ago
