Those are the norm in Europe. The transistors are a bit more sensitive, but you may have to check for debris.

I think that the one I made for @fig was my third or fourth. I've made a bunch of these since the first one, including one specifically to test transistors, so now instead of buying expensive sockets I just test them in my test rig and solder them in.
This was my germanium discovery phase and much of the magic has worn off since then, but I do love looking at my old builds and seeing what I do better now and what I still manage screw up
That being said, this first one I made has been on my guitarist's pedalboard for over a year and he's not reported any problems and those legs weren't soldered in (and they have the stupid long legs, too). As long as you don't remove them after putting them in the first time they tend to bite pretty well, but yeah, they ought to be soldered.
