New Pedal Releases

I don't hate it, but there are things I don't understand...

Could the VU meter not have been mounted flush? Or at least more flush than it currently is?

And more importantly of all, why that knob? And why there?

I have a feeling we know which one...
that particular meter would have a depth problem mounting flush which is why vu meters on pedals are stupid ... he said while owning that WA comp with the meter on it

On the ozymandias some switches go L/R, others up/down. You were so close to a beautiful execution, and F'ed up the UI.
I can't stand for knobs and switches 1 inch from stomps. I don't care how cool the graphic is.
But, these are pedals from a eurorack company so not too surprised.

Agreed about the proximity of controls to stomps, but there's just too much stuff shoved in there for that size of enclosure, full stop.

As for switches, whatever is logical for its function, for ex: up for treble, down for bass; but left/right for an order switcher on a dual circuit combo-build — unless the control-set for each is one above the other (2 x 3-knobber for example). Even then, the stompers will still be left and right. Nonetheless, it should be made clear in the Ozymandias' labelling what does what — the input/output buffers don't indicate which way the toggle is pointing when the buffer is "ON", for example.

I think the graphics were designed around the controls moreso than t'other way 'round.

I thought AFA was mainly a pedal-producer, but it doesn't surprise me that the company went to eurorack, as that seems to be where the money is (even though it's more niche than pedals). Another example of a stompbox maker going synthrack is Kilpatrick Audio; I'm sure there are plenty of others. At least the guy behind AFA, Aditya Nandwana, has some love for the DIY community, sharing his Baron Samedi circuit in 2014.

I doubt there's more money in it. I think euro rack types are more open to novel or complex designs, whereas guitarists tend to be conservative. If you want to make envelope controlled ring modulators, you're gonna have to sell it to synth dudes making bleep bloop music. Blues lawyers only want overpriced fuzz faces and tube screamers.

Points well made, AN.

Indeed, I based my assumption on an observation: I've noticed anything that's pedal-friendly that winds up in a synthrack is 2–3 times (or more times) more expensive than a pedal — even if it's just a reworked Rat or Muff, whether it be finished product or a DIY-project. I guess niche rack stuff that's low-volume production needs to charge more than "mass"-produced pedals.

Just thinking aloud again...

Im thinking out loud too.

I'm not in the euro rack world, so I don't know what the prices are like. 2X–3X seems excessive, even when accounting for the switch to a 24v split power supply. Maybe it's a smaller market with no economy of scale? Maybe it's people charging what the market can sustain? I know some casual guitarists, but I don't know any casual modular synth users.

@Feral Feline If I remember correctly you’re a big rotary fan. $100. Not the best video but I used to own their old company’s multi modulation, ALabs Nova Drift, and the Rotary on it was killer. Only bummer on this one is that it’s mono

Am I the only that thinks this is a steal at $100 for a Rotary and with so many functions? The sounds samples are excellent for such a generic video. I’d like a good demo but I doubt that’ll happen.

I'm still looking for a rotary pedal that once you stomp it on, it spins on your pedalboard.

Guess I'll have to make it myself, gotta work out the cable-management somehow... I guess that's why a true rotary-pedal doesn't exist yet.
