Now Playing... What are you Listening to Right Now?

I'm a big fan of Neil Finn and all his projects, especially Crowded House. They have a new album out (Dreamers are Waiting) which is very good and sounds like a current, relevant album while also retaining the classic Crowded House sound. I like it a lot, and this is after not really caring for much of Neil Finn's output for the last 15 years or so.
Crowded House has always been both very uncool among certain hipsters, and also considered some of the best pop music out there by much of the cognoscenti. I've always loved them and don't understand the labels they're often saddled with like "soft" or "middle of the road." Probably comes from a few of their biggest hits being ballads I guess, but they're a great band with a lot of varied sounds and some of the best songwriting I've heard. This album adds his sons to the lineup and lands firmly in indie pop/rock territory. This track is gorgeous and stands with their best.

"...my possessions are causin' me suspicion but there's no proof"

Once in awhile, a songwriter will pierce the soul of one, or many. In my case, this line encapsulated a particular feeling or "sense" previously unarticulated. 35 years later it still rings of truth.

Been a fan of Neil Finn and his song writing since Split Enz, thanks for the heads up on the new CH album!

PS: Just listened to Diver Down in its entirety — the last time I did that, it was 1984.

New Riders of the Purple Sage- Adventures of Panama Red. This is a perfect country rock album. Great song writing, awesome singers, good horn section, Buddy Cage is blasting the pedal steel with some fuzz.

I'm not at all into the dead or the early iteration of this band with Jerry on pedal steel tho

I am pretty partial to the live set below:

Love Neil. Have you ever listened to the 7 Worlds Collide love album Neil Finn and Friends? It has some great tunes with Eddie Vedder and Johnny Marr.

I’ve been listening to a lot of Toad the Wet Sprocket. Mostly Coil because I like that album more but Dulcinea has some of the best recorded guitar sounds out there

I'm in the office today, so it's all about that Spotify Playlist.

Currently playing: Okkervil Unless it Kicks:

A couple of years ago (man, do I miss pre-COVID life) my wife and I got to see them in a tiny little venue with maybe 100 to 150 people there. It was fantastic and if you get the chance to see them live they are very much worth it.

Oh yeah, their version of There Is a Light That Never Goes Out by The Smiths is amazing. Also includes Ed and Phil from Radiohead
