Now Playing... What are you Listening to Right Now?

Oh yeah, their version of There Is a Light That Never Goes Out by The Smiths is amazing. Also includes Ed and Phil from Radiohead
I like the Dum Dum Girls cover of the Smiths There is a Light that never goes out.

Have tried to put more attention into listening to some of my CDs lately. Joe Jackson's Jumping Jive was my pick yesterday.

I grew up in a meth house in the Inland Empire in the 80's and 90's, so early Mountain Goats really speak to me, and this is one of their best: Pigs that Ran Straightaway In To The Water, Triumph Of

I used to listen to a lot of metal when I was younger. In my 20s my tastes expanded, and I was a little turned off by the "sceneiness" of the genre.

Then, at the ripe old age of 33, I re-watched metalocalypse with sticklady. And both stick persons realized something:

Holy hell...the music was really, really, really good.

But I won't get into my analysis of "why dethklok is legitimately brilliant here".

I was never really a metal fan but had lots of friends who were. I loved Metalocalypse, though. The music was awesome and hilarious and the show was as well. Brendon Small has had his hands in a lot of really awesome projects. Check out Home Movies if you haven't yet.

I love pretty much all things Stephen Malkmus, but this cover of Killing Moon really does it for me:

I love everything on here, to see someone else listening to Bonnie Billy makes me smile from ear to ear. Lately I have been getting weird and cannot get this song out of my head.

I could jam with them (though they probably don't want me to). That's my alter-musical-ego and the type of thing I realize I'm playing when I return from wherever it is I wander off to with a guitar in my hand.

I saw their show for their last album, and scenic-wise and music-wise, it’s one of the best show I saw in the last 10/15 years. I was suppose to catch them early April in 2020, but well, that didn’t turn out so good.
It’s a kinda concept album based on old found letters from 1965, so it has cool retro vibes and some great riffs. It’s been on heavy rotation lately. Can’t wait to catch them live!

If you haven't yet given Smog/Bill Callahan a shot and you're a Bonnie Billy fan you should check him out, I think there's a lot of crossover. They've also been doing some awesome stuff together over Quarantine (this one also has Cassie Berman):

Oh, man. Now you're speakin my language. I'm kind of an Elvis Costello nut....

The space here is 100% EC (with the exception of the sleeves on the to take up the rest of the space). I've got a lot of good EC boots in there as well as most of his studio stuff:

And a good amount of singles, too.

Awesome! I love EC, but Squeeze/Glenn Tilbrook is *really* a huge fav of mine, so that track in particular is the best of both worlds for me. That’s a really great collection there. I have maybe 6-7 of his LPs, 4-5 singles, and maybe 12 or so CDs— still trying to get my hands on the French language version of Hey Clockface that was released as a RSD exclusive in the UK last month (along with the UK Procol Harum and Hall & Oates RSD releases), but I’ll probably have to wait until after this weekend’s RSD drop so I can order the Beefheart release as well to save on shipping costs

I haven't listened to them much, honestly. I know of them through Elvis Costello, mostly but haven't really gotten to know them beyond a few songs. I have to say though that "Pulling Mussels" is one of the best songs I've ever listened to, and I keep coming back to it. Can you suggest anything particular?

I’m typically not one for ‘best of’ or compilation albums, but ‘Singles— 45’s and under’ is a great introduction to the early period of the band. Other than that, some of my favorites are ‘In Quintessence’, ‘From the Cradle to the Grave’ which is a fairly recent track, and ‘it’s not cricket’. If you want a full studio album to start with, I’d pick Argybargy, which just happens to be what ‘Pulling Mussels’ is from (which by the way is one of the greatest guitar solos ever imo).

Thanks, I will check those out. Not sure why I never thought to give them a real listen before.
