That's exactly what I do. I've been buying large batches of germanium transistors (don't ask), so that breadboard is usually completely full.

For the pads? Yes, they are connected rows on either side of the center. I bought a bag of them awhile back and use them for small projects. Sturdy too. ElectroCookies.
