Pin striping an enclosure?

Hi!

I am thinking of having an enclosure pin striped, think Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top style.

I believe my friend uses an enamel paint pen to do it 90% of the time.

What to so you think would work best? Raw? Matte? Gloss? I know my friend does it on cars and guitars with existing clear coats.

That said, I will clear coat over to protect it.

Thoughts?

BOOM BOOM BOOM — Swelchy for the win.

Does the enamel paint pen have a chiselled tip like some felt markers? Then maybe the thin-to-thick-to-thin could be imitated.

Part of the charm/aesthetic of pinstriping is getting it right through thick and thin.

I'm into pinstriping, but I can't/don't do it myself — I tried to pinstripe my Turbo-Tuner with a silver paint-pen, and it didn't go well at all.

Going to get a friend to teach me, eventually.

The Nocturne pedals often have pin-striping on them — tasteful.

NOCTURNE PINSTRIPED.jpeg
Small circuits inside big boxes and still with the #$%^&* side-jackassery.

I've see a few other pedals that've been pinstriped, well. Surprisingly not too many that were done poorly.

I'm into the ol's'cool style, I want the pin-striping to look like pin-striping — not a line-drawing of an hombre in a sombrero or a devil sticking its tongue out... art's gotta evolve though, and lots of people like that kind of imagery so all the more power to those patrons and the artists.

There's another guy local, who's quite good — check out El Gordo. He's on FecalBrook and Instaglam etc.
If I had any money, I'd have some stuff done by him.
He does both the ol's'cool (left) and the newdrewl bull (right)...

I've got a bunch of pics of cars he's done, see them at the car shows, far and wide. Course, can't find those pics on my HD right now.

Yeah - it will be along the lines of El Gordo's work.

I can not draw, so not sure how he does it with a pen but he does some cool stuff.

Maybe the term pin striping is wrong for the technique but more as the style?
