So I am thinking about trying a point to point circuit. I understand the concept and schematics I just want to find some decent walkthroughs so to speak to get my feet wet. I found one great layout for a fuzzface with pretty damn good instructions.

I think I am going to try that but I was wondering if anyone had come across any other cool resources for learning how to do point to point guitar circuits like this? They don’t have to be fancy circuits but I am sure there are best practices to learn that would be easier to do from the beginning if that makes sense. I have seen a few point to point circuits on the forum but it doesn’t seem to be uber popular.

I managed this one, not pretty but id does what it is supposed to.

I just started with the pots, switch, and jacks mounted and worked my way around.

That point to point Fuzz Face was my tutorial, curious myself as I never really found any "general how to" info.

I started with a nice 10 component simple circuit

Here's my next PTP project, inspired by @GizzWizzKing 's build report of @Nostradoomus ' one-knob version of this @Chuck D. Bones Boneyard circuit, here.

I reverted back to the OG layout because as much as I like one-knob jobs, I like switches and potentiometers and doodad parameter controls more, and internal trimpots and PTP might not be the best at playing together. I'll be doing this in stages and updating after each, because if there's one thing to eff up a PTP build, it's excessive "off-board" elements. And we have 5 pots, 3 toggle switches, 3 jacks, and...

Also, you could just try a simple circuit and see where you land with your first shot and figure out the aspects you want to improve. I did a p2p, and it looks totally insane, but it was really enjoyable just trying to figure out how to do it.

The P2P builds I’ve been seeing look fun. So I took my first crack at it.

If you’ve ever built the PPCB Schadenfreude, then you know. This is about the nastiest thing there is, but in the most glorious way. A PLL from hell. Not for doing harmonized monophonic synth sounds.

I tried to come up with a layout, but eventually it felt futile. I just had to make choices that I thought wouldn’t paint me into a corner, and figure it out along the way.

I had a spare enclosure to use. It was originally for my PPCB Desolate Fuzz, but I drilled the knobs too low.

Well @audendash and anyone else, i am more than happy to chip in on wonderings and questions. But I think you’ll be much more rewarded just wading into the build.

I can give you some basic things, though. First, aesthetics and function are two totally different things. You can have things like my earlier builds that look like snarled ass but sound quite good. Aesthetics is a big part of PtP, but dont let perfect be the enemy of good in your first builds.

Having said that, apparently our brain likes perpendicular and parallel lines with curved bends. Bend around a jig like a screwdriver shaft. You can assemble subunits out of box. It’s waaay easier. And there’s some deal with blu tac to position elements but I don’t know about that.

Second, flux flux FLUX those tips. Makes for a happy time. And really don’t leave the iron on too long.

Third, decorate and drill your box, install your indicator led, pots, jacks, and switches, and install the tie-ins and wiring to those elements first as a bottom later. Way easier.

I think à fuzz face is a great first project.
