Hey all,
First build report in a bit for me. Feels like the last few months I’ve had 5 pedals on the verge of finishing and haven’t. Or just haven’t given them the needed play time to share any thoughts.
I actually already did a build report on the cobbler 6 months ago or so, but decided to include it again here.
These three are very similar (shocker I know) and nice simple quick builds (nice break from my Electrovibe fiasco).
First up we have the cobbler. The vox in a box, I can’t really say how close to a true vox in a box it is. But I can tell you it’s one of my favorite tones to play with, and has been since I built it 6 monthish ago. Great break up sound, I also turn the gain down and like to play around with the tone cut knob to dial in some great edge of break up/clean tones.
Next up the doxie… apparently you’re fender ish in a box sort of thing. I’ve actually found myself using this most of the three I like running the chop shop or or mbp blue Steele into it with the gain lower. Or just for a little flavor for some cleans. Butchering third stone from the sun with it is a fave past time.
Last the Bobby your Marshall in a box. My least used/least favorite. It’s a total taste thing, just not my sound. I knew it going into building and still built it because well sometimes you need that snarl. And it meets it, one thing I did notice was I felt like the eq was more responsive on this one than the other two.
I’ve been doing a fair amount of practicing lately (well noodling) through a little ehx howitzer pedal board amp I picked up a bit ago. And these three are perfect for it, put them in the effects loop and it’s like 3 different amps (I usually just run everything straight into the return and bypass the preamp on It). I may pick up the John at some point but think I will pass on the kraken me and high gain just don’t mix lol. Thinking I may end up in the future incorporating these with one of the power amp boards out there for a handy practice amp set up.
The Bobby (green) and cobbler (copper) were part of a pedal throwing contest my 2 year old decided to have at one point and some paint got chipped. He might have beat his personal best though as he cleared the area rug so I guess I can’t be too mad.
The duchess has a pre wired led o picked up from LMS ages ago that I forgot I bought. Love the look, wish you weren’t so limited as to where you can put them based on size. They won’t fit in a 1590 unless you clip off most the black tail.
Overall 2 of these are some of my most used pedals and I’d for sure recommend them especially in fx loop of little solid state amps. I’ve got a few 3118 boards I plan on doing some playing with wirh and possibly incorporating these.
