So I did manage to squeak in an easy build this week after all
Which turned out taking a bit longer than I expected from some self inflicted injuries.
My drilling was off a bit and I had to do apply a bit if "English" to make it all fit in the 1590b with some judicious use of a rat tail file and
slight adjustments in the drill holes.
After all that "jimmying" was was test fitting it before deciding on a paint color and decided that I liked the "utilitarian" look. Kinda fits the pedal as I tend to think of treble boosters as "utility" pedals.
Started it last night and wrapped it up this morning but I did take some time trying some different transistors. From the higher end of the gain spectrum to the lower end. I finally settled on a Russian P28 with gain around 84 Hfe and leakage around .25ua.
I was able to bias it to right at 7v and fine tuning it by ear afterwards I didn't stray far from the 7v, it's right around in there. Of course the bias and gains are subject to a lot of fluctuation.
Really cool variant of the Rangemaster with selectable filter caps. I'm liking it better in the upper few settings on the rotary with the fatter sounds.
Have not tried it with an amp yet but it pushes some of the other drive pedals I currently have out very nicely with that "snarly" treble boost sound.
