ten years ago, we dropped off a whole tier of our wedding cake from the night before at the shop my friends own and maybe 5 years ago I djed for a while. Haven't shopped on record store day in a long time
First Was able to get my hands on a few of my top picks, and a few I was on the fence on:
St Vincent- Nowhere Inn
John Williams- Lost in Space (got the store’s only copy!)
Gong- gong in the 70s
Joni Mitchell- Blue Highlights
Dave Davies- Kinked
Johnny Marr- Spirit, Power & Soul
Unfortunately two from the top three of my list sold out before I could get them:
Blondie- Sunday Girl (they said it was one of the first to sell out, which is pretty surprising. I’m pretty sure a few of the swifties got them)
Nick Lowe- Wireless World (they only got one copy in)
also missed out on Tiny Tim and Vince Guaraldi, but I wasn’t too hopeful for either, and I was on the fence about both anyway.
decided at the last minute to pass on Devo and on The Proclaimers when I saw how much I was spending as is.
Then I was able to grab Nick Lowe at my local Newbury when I went in to grab the Elton John EP for my uncle (might go back and grab a copy of Elton for myself if it’s still available in a few days- I was unfamiliar with the original EP, but I checked it out on Spotify and I dug it; I love anything slathered in Coral Sitar). Still no luck on finding Blondie. They did have the Vince Guaraldi Peanuts single, but I didn’t notice it until after I checked out, and I didn’t have enough time to go back on line. I’ll grab both the Guaraldi and Elton in the near future when they inevitably end up in the RSD leftovers bin for 25% off. Blondie will have to be a discogs grab probably— I had been excitedly waiting for that one since it was first planned for RSD 2020
Hahaha yeah I get that. I used to go crazy for any release that mildly interested me, but now I only grab the stuff that’s actually unique or whatever (I’m not grabbing a colored pressing of a readily available album for 2x the cost just bc it’s a RSD exclusive, unless it’s a Zappa release because I’m a shameless Zappa fanatic) and actually something I’ll listen to and can’t otherwise get on vinyl. I enjoy it even if it’s a bit stressful, tiring, and full of BS hahaha
