DUMB ASS!

My first time soldiering an IC the wrong way and of course it’s a 16 pin! Fuck. Going to use wick and hope I don’t fry the chip or the board. Slow the fuck down.

I saw a YouTube of a dude using some cheap desolidering vacuum gun thing. Looked cool but I’m going to try the wick.

This is the best manual (unpowered) desoldering tool I've used:

May have to get one of those. I got a cheap plastic one, which I found useless. Luckily wick has worked so far.

I prefer and use wick when I can, but sometimes you have those stubborn jobs where it just won't cut it.

In this case though, I'd seriously have to weigh the cost of the board vs the part. If it's a 20 cent CD4049 I'd probably just clip the legs and put in a new one.

If it's an MN3011 I'd probably dremel the board away from the IC. :ROFLMAO:

In my case it’s the LM13700N on the Low Tide Mini. My only LM13700N and my only pcb of this. I’m just kicking myself because I was in such a hurry to play this thing and only had to drop this and two other things in I didn’t double check the orientation. I have had great luck using wick for other issues. Tonight I will either have a success story or a Low tide mini board I’m a million bits due to my 🔨…. A3A85EBD-0A98-4A60-AA50-B29F946E7860.jpeg

Oof, and the board is already populated. I'd send you another one but that won't salvage all those components.

I hate to say I'd probably sacrifice the IC in this case. 😬
It’s going to be like playing operation as a kid but with more at stake. lol.

Well look, if things go south, and I hope they don't, let me know and I'll send you another board.

That's at least one hurdle out of the equation.
I very much appreciate your 100000% customer service but I made the error.
If I end up smashing this build and want to try again I’ll happily pay for another board. 👍🏼 Or wait for another Fig contest 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

But you don't even need another microcontroller... (and there is no option for the PCB without the microcontroller)

Starting to think clipping the legs and just ordering another chip would be less of a pain than attempting surgery on a stacked pcb…. Damn I wanted to get my wobble on maybe it will have to wait.

I recently soldered my first ever transistors. Tagboards and turret boards make it necessary. I just don't have the balls to solder ICs. I use sockets. I also got one of those IC remover tweezers just in case.
