As much as it seems like hard work to go and see bands these days I am glad my wife and I do. We went out to see the Hives a couple of nights ago and man were they good! Howling Pelle is an amazing front man. So much energy, humour and crowd control! The power in their performance is something to witness too. The way they split up the parts between the two guitars is impressive. If the gig I went to is any indication, the Hives don't do flat spots or dud songs. They had the audience in the palms of their hands. The guitars sounded great - even better than on record. The gig went by in a blur... I loved that the roadies were dressed as ninjas, complete with black gi tops with The Hives logos and black balaclavas.
The only negatives might be that they could have played a larger venue. It was packed. And it was actually too loud - something I haven't experienced in years! Usually these days gigs aren't loud enough. This was just enough too loud that it obscured the clarity of the PA. I would liked to have been able to hear the band more clearly. But hey - it was totally rock'n'roll. We had been really looking forward to this and they didn't let us down. Fab.
