Saw The Hives! Wow...

As much as it seems like hard work to go and see bands these days I am glad my wife and I do. We went out to see the Hives a couple of nights ago and man were they good! Howling Pelle is an amazing front man. So much energy, humour and crowd control! The power in their performance is something to witness too. The way they split up the parts between the two guitars is impressive. If the gig I went to is any indication, the Hives don't do flat spots or dud songs. They had the audience in the palms of their hands. The guitars sounded great - even better than on record. The gig went by in a blur... I loved that the roadies were dressed as ninjas, complete with black gi tops with The Hives logos and black balaclavas.

The only negatives might be that they could have played a larger venue. It was packed. And it was actually too loud - something I haven't experienced in years! Usually these days gigs aren't loud enough. This was just enough too loud that it obscured the clarity of the PA. I would liked to have been able to hear the band more clearly. But hey - it was totally rock'n'roll. We had been really looking forward to this and they didn't let us down. Fab.

I love the Hives, but I've never had a chance to see them live. That makes me want to go look for concert dates. The new songs they've been releasing are good. They never lost a step.

I agree - some of the new stuff sounds great. Well, all of the new stuff sounds great! Apparently one of the songs they played was the the first time they had played it in front of an audience. I hope that was true! I can't remember what it was called but I remember thinking I must get the new album. (Yes I am old - I like to buy CDs)

Almost local band - saw them quite a number of times in Denmark and Germany and they just kills it every time. Hard to put a finger on what is so special about them - but they really have their very own special "thing" when you see them live. Sum of all the parts I guess

They make me smile. Since seeing them I have watched a few entire concert videos of them on Youtube and end up with a stupid smile on my face. And now I can't wait until the 29th of August when the new album comes out.
