Saw this on Threads and it’s relevant to the Box o’ Pickups traveling around. Rate these pickups from best to worst in your opinion.

I’ve bought two sets based on your guitar build threads and love them both 😂

Sunday handwound for my Jazzmaster and tonerider PAF clones for my HH Tele.
Which Toneriders did you get? The Alnico II's? Toneriders are like the best/worst kept secret of the budget pickup world. Really superb pickups for not a lot of money. I may be getting some of their Vintage P90's here soon for a project.

I got an Alnico II for the bridge and a IV for the neck. I’d read some reviews that the IIs could be a little muddy in the neck position, though others say they’re very clear and articulate, so who knows. Either way, now that I’ve I got the height dialed in I think they blend nicely and I like them both a lot.

Oooh I didn't even the possibility of getting GAS for pickups, but here I am.

Tbh I'm reasonably happy with the Vintera stock mics and not sure if Toneriders would be an upgrade, but I have a cheap Tele I where it might be worthwhile...

Planet Tone is a great spot for budget pickups too.

Got a set of dissidents in one of my guitars. By far my favorite alnico 8 set.

I recently bought a $100 beater Tele, semi hollow, made in 2019. So 5 years old and they're just dumping them now to clear them off the books. (You can only depreciate off the taxes for five years). Don't let the "Last one" fool you. It magically changed back to "1 available" a couple days after I bought the green one.

The bridge saddles are CR@P making it sound like a sitar no matter how they were adjusted, the neck was seriously bowed and the truss rod allen head doesn't align with the hole making reaming necessary to access it. Fixed that and got the bow out. Nice and straight.

BUT the tone is that of an ice pick. Treble up the arse.

So ordered some new saddles, and what the heck saw quite a few pretty good reviews of guitarmadness 52 tele pickups. At 50 buck$ for the set free shipping they're cheap but still half the price of the guitar, lmao.

I also ordered some roller string trees. But the frets are well finished so at least there's that. The flame maple top is paint. What a piece of shat.

When I'm done I'm sending it to a good friend who wants to introduce his young daughter to musical instruments, but I figured I'd have some fun fixing up this POS and who knows, the pickups might sound fairly good. He's a very good friend so I'm also sending a 5e3 combo amp with Mercury Magnetic iron that I built with a 12" JBL instrument speaker in a 3/4" pine cabinet with dovetail joints. He's agreed to drive down from Shingletown CA to pick up.

Trust me folks, these are great sounding pickups. They are notGibson's, or Seymour Duncan's, but they are also not $120. YOU GET MUCH MORE VALUE FOR YOUR MONEY HERE. NO BS, NO HYPE.

Now the old saying is "How do you say EFF YOU in the music industry? TRUST ME!"

I figure it'll be fun. Got a NOS .047 PIO cap for the tone. These come self shielded encapsulated in metal to minimize noise in sensitive signal locations. I have phillips mustard caps I could try as well.

Why? The secret to not loosing your mind after retiring is STAY BUSY. That's why. I figure I'll finish it off after getting it perfect by painting it a nice sea foam green.....

There's two versions of these stainless saddles out there, unfinished and crappy looking, and these smooth and good looking. 10.5mm and 10.8mm. Replacing the 10.5mm ones. T.G. for Calipers....

Lemme know what you think of these pickups. I'm always pretty pleasantly surprised by the tone of some of the cheap pickups that can be found nowadays.

I'm a big fan of the Slick pickups over at GFS. They get a little goofy scratching them up to make them look "vintage" but I've had great results.

Ahh, but I'm in Europe, so I don't think anything shipped from Colorado will be "budget" for me. While Tonerider is 75€/90€ for the Tele pickup sets, with shipping and taxes. Planet Tone would be something like 120€ + shipping (which will probably be quite a lot) + 25,5% on top of that for taxes.

Actually just checked it, with the current discount it would be ~160€ total, which is not that bad. I could get a set of Lollars for ~240€ from Thomann though.

See, that's why America is the best.

*Turns on TV, sees coverage of the presidential election*

....yup. The...eh...

How, erm, how's demand for HVAC mechanics in your neck of the woods there?

I think heat pumps probably fall under the same category so... actually quite good demand? They're very popular, although mostly for heating in the winter, with the added bonus of cooling in the summer. I've even been thinking of maybe getting one, although it's more of an extravagant luxury thing since our apartment is in the shade so it doesn't get that hot even in the hottest of summer (the whole week of it).

(actually this year was record breaking, 71 heat days total, which is when the temperature is over 25 degrees Celsius somewhere in the country - but still, it was always fine with just a fan running since we're facing the optimal direction to avoid the hottest sunshine)

Heat pumps are absolutely the same realm. Just an AC that can be run in reverse.

California is slowly making the transition to heat pumps. The inverter-driven models work great with solar: soft start and all.

Ive heard that Europe is ahead of us in terms of transitioning away from R-410a. R-1234YF in vehicles, r-32 in smaller systems, CO2 in some large capacity applications.

Which is great, cause with r-410a we traded slight flammability with R-32 but global heat blanketing potential alone for a blend of 32 and 125 that is just *super* at trapping heat in the atmosphere.

Humans are great.

where is this wonderful place that barely gets above 25 degrees? Can you adopt me?

https://www.statista.com/statistics/743043/monthly-average-temperatures-in-finland/ keep in mind, it's very dark, cold and wet for a big part of the year. But if you ask me, the summer is really nice, although it can be short-ish and rainy sometimes. It's not really that cold usually, we rarely hit -30, usually just a couple of days per year for that too. But quite dark during the winter, thus all the metal bands, I assume.

Everything is pretty expensive, taxes are high and wages are lower than in the US, but on the other hand you get quite nice number of vacation days and worker rights (at least for now).

We've had our heat pump for just over a full year now. WOW! We feel so civilized with the A/C in the summer. TBH the backup gas kicks in for the heat at about 40F outside. Not that much savings here in Colorado for the heat but every little bit counts and that A/C made us softer than a tit quicker than you could blink.
