This is my oldest (but not my first--I let a couple of older ones go), and also sentimental because I got it to celebrate a milestone. It plays and sounds great.

It's a Tele partscaster I assembled in 2005 from a USACG neck and body, Nocaster pickups, and Callaham bridge. It has Strat contours so it's really comfortable.

It's the only guitar I finished myself. It's finished with a water-based lacquer. I was shooting for coral when I mixed the pigments, but it came out sort of fiesta red. It was buffed only to a matte finish, and I like the way it turned out.

It's also the first and only time I carved a bone nut, and I feel lucky that I got it right in one attempt.

One more thing, in keeping with my entry to fig's drill mishap contest, just like all my pedals, that pickguard is on slightly askew. The only thing keeping it from perfection.

@spi — I've got a bone nut I'm thinking of putting in my Tele build, any advice on carving it up?

Was supposed to be a compensated nut, but damned if I can find it, and then just the other day I found the bone nut a friend gave me that I'd forgotten about... beats the cheap plastic nut that came with the neck.

It was so long ago I don't remember the details. Just take it slow. I did have a tusq pre-slotted nut that I used as a guide, and when it came time to start the strings slots, I clamped the two nuts together so I could see exactly where to cut the slots.

A little late to this thread, but here we go, my go to’s

though not my oldest (‘74 es335), or my first (‘91 Strat+), my Reverend Jetstream 290 just sounds awesome with everything and the Ray34 I modded with a Delano quadcoil with series/tap/parallel switch and a mojotone 3 band control plate so it’s got all the tones.

I've got several, but these are my favorites!

My favorite!

I guess I wasn’t even a member when this forum started… very sad. Anyways I thought I would share my sentimental guitar. I built it in 2018 after my daughter was sick and needed to try and focus on something positive… also why I build pedals (idle hands are the devils tools, and an idle mind is the devils playground) I digress. Anyways I wanted to build something myself and jumped into this tele. It is a four way switch, plenty of filigree, and is named Dolores. Dolores also means sorrow and I could think of a better name. Anyways to add a happy note my daughter is doing well and the guitar sounds great! Hope this wasn’t a buzzkill. It wasn’t meant to be.

Happy to hear that your daughter is doing well and that you bided your time in a really positive way and gave yourself something beautiful with the energy. I think we could all take a lesson from you, there. I know I can!

Well...I guess that's gotta be blue girl.

Got her when I was 16: A 1991 Gibson Les Paul Studio Lite. Over the years I replaced the stock bridge and tailpiece for aluminum varieties, locking tuners, Bare Knuckle Black Dogs in the neck and bridge.

A big chunk of mahogany was hogged out and replaced with something in the vein of balsa...it makes for a lighter instrument with a lively midrange. She's been refretted once...hope I never have to sell her.

This is my newest, and third bass in total. a Schecter Diamond Series C4 Apocalypse. Never really looked at Schecter's before, but when I was browsing the main Japanese music gear site for lawsuit bass guitars, I came across this. I instantly fell in love with the finish, both the color and the grain texture. The other instruments in our apartment are a tobacco burst Bacchus Jazz Bass and a cherry sunburst Squier Standard Stratocaster.

I can't believe I haven't posted here. Maybe it's just nerves after seeing all the premium gear listed. Anyway, Here is my contribution.

guitars.jpg

The Ibanez Artcore AS73 is the latest. I've wanted a semi-hollow for a very long time, and I like how it fits my stature (6'3", 280 lb). I was blown away at how the neck seems to fit me better than more expensive guitars, even Gibsons. Unfortunately I haven't had as much time to play it, as it was just purchased a few months ago. I may want to try some SD Seth Lovers in this eventually (or if you guys have any recommendations, let me know...)

The Epiphone Les Paul Special was also bought this year, because I just had to have a P-90 guitar. I actually wanted an SG, but after playing both in my local store, I wanted this one with its baseball bat neck. Sounds great, and I may eventually put Mojotone P90's in it to help with the buzz. I want to try this one with heavier gauge strings so I can finally start my Stoner Doom Tom Jones cover band.

The center one is my lifer guitar. The guitar that defines me. A 2000 Fender American Telecaster, it was originally sparkle teal with a white pickguard. I was taking guitar lessons back then, and my teacher knew that I was looking to upgrade my Squier (you have to remember, Squiers were crap at the time). He worked retail at a different music store, and he let me know that they had a guitar that fell off the rack and got dinged up. So dad and I went to go check it out, and it felt amazing. They ended up negotiating down to nearly half off the price - an amazing deal, but still way more cash than I had. My dad got it for me and later revealed that he gave up plans for a once-in-a-lifetime VIP meet and greet in order to pay for it. I started sobbing, and that was that - I'm never getting rid of this guitar ever.

I put down the guitar in favor of the bass in 2006 so I could join a band, but gradually played less and less music over the years. When EVH died last year, that sparked me to pick it up again. Then I started modding it, because while I had the story, I didn't feel like the guitar itself reflected its connection to me. So...

1) Replaced pickups with SD Quarter Pound Tele pickups and a RWRP Quarter Pound Strat pickup in the middle to make it a "Nashville" Tele. I only learned this term after doing the mod. I had destroyed the original pickups in an effort to get more tones out of it, and the body was routed for a third pickup, so why not?
2) New CTS pots, 0.022uF poly film cap
3) Black pickguard, copper shielding throughout
4) Self-relic'ed bridge plate (Took sandpaper to it simply because the chrome finish was too shiny)
5) Black control plate, reversed, angled 5-way switch w/ black metal switch tip, and a push-button kill switch between the two knobs.
6) Black Strat Volume and Tone knobs. Mostly so I don't get confused.
7) I stripped off the teal sparkle finish and refinished it with a black india ink and satin wipe-on polyurethane. The one stripe on the body never seemed to take the ink as well, but I like the unevenness.

So here is a bass that I kind of forgot about because I keep it in my office at work and I hadn't used my office in nearly two years up until last month.

It's nothing special, but it is the oldest bass I still own. I bought this at Sam Ash when I was an undergrad - probably about 2002-03 would be my guess. A bunch of people from my fraternity went down to the beach for a bonfire and on the way home we stopped at Sam Ash and in a drunken blur bought this thing.

By all accounts it is not very good. It is extra long scale (35'' Ibelieve), which I'm not really a fan of, and while I don't care that it's a veneer top, the bridge has been pulling forward a bit and has pulled the veneer away from the plywood below, so there is this bubble in front of the bridge.

It just gets played around with randomly at work. The electronics in it don't work anymore, but it was useless when they did because it is a feedback MONSTER. It's a good one to keep in the office to noodle around on once in a while, though, so that's what it does. I really need to take care of that fretboard, though...

My family found ourselves somewhat adrift for about half of last year, several thousands of miles from everything I owned, including all my gear. Scored this little purple guy for eighty bucks on Craigslist. It was a lifesaver.

Have a collection of about half a dozen guitars that I’m very pleased with, none that I’d ever sell and it hasn’t left me wanting anything new. But I am especially pleased with my two basses.

Left one is a vintage Epiphone Rivoli from maybe 1964. Bought it back around 2001 and just love it. The other was built by my brother from a kit. Turned out so well I hardly play the Rivoli anymore.

YEAH BABY!
I dig those little Höfners, first one I've seen in purple. Purple and orange, two of my favourite colours.

What a fantastic burst on your brother's part. I confess, I've been looking at your bass a LOT since we spoke.
I've gotta scrape some dosh together and do up one similar to your brother's build, a little less honey and more orange to burnt-umber in the burst is what I'll aim for.

Thinking these Mojotone Goldfoils would be just the ticket:

Or a Gibson-style single-coil that's often mistaken for a mudbucker in the neck and a Mojo Gold Foil in the bridge.

Maybe a DarkStar in the neck... ooooohhhhh.... but, I gotta finish my Tele build first.

@peccary Is that a Merlin Newsboy I see? Whatever it is... Ti Beach-cruiser style MTBs give me... BAS! 😻

Love Mojo pickups @Feral Feline. I have them in every guitar except my prs. Marc is fantastic to deal with.

That's just a cheapo steel cruiser from the local bike shop. I dig the naked look, though. When I was racing BMX and doing street riding, there was a rider named Joey Garcia who was one of my idols and his signature frame at the time (from Schwinn) was naked steel and I thought was the coolest thing I'd seen (probably late 90's).

I saw this frame and it reminded me of that, which is why I got it.
