Son of Ben extremely trebly?

Hi everyone,

I finished a Son of Ben build a while ago and I'm not sure it's working as expected.

The pedal seems to be functioning (LEDs lit, passes sound, creates distortion) but it cuts almost all of the bass with an extremely trebly sound overall.

It sounds kind of interesting with the bass all the way up and the treble all the way down, but I feel like that's not how it's meant to be set.

Here's a photo of the build, is there any thing visibly wrong on the board? As you can see, I tried my luck with 1 SMD J201 but decided to use pedalPCB pre-soldered MMBFJ201s instead.

I followed the biasing guide thread and I think I was able to get acceptable results but I'll check again to make sure.

Can’t help much but I’m curious as to what you find. I built one and found it to be awfully harsh too. Even once biased just right it seemed extremely bright/thin and with a not particularly pleasant breakup. I ended up moving on from it but I’m interested to see if that’s just how it is or if something was amiss…

Hey, did you ever figure this out? I built a Son of a Ben and am having the same problem; the only usable setting is with the bass on full and the treble on 3 (or off). I attached some photos of my build (I've since gotten rid of the painter's tape and replaced it with plastic covers.)

This thread's 3 years old... I suggest you start your own trouble-shooting thread... include the pics and maybe add some more close-up pics, perhaps include a link back to this thread. Wish I could be of more help.
