This Week on the Breadboard: BJFe Arctic White Fuzz

I built one of these on Vero today. Wow - really good fuzz! Do I see some Skreddy influence in there?

The Attack control make all the difference in the world. It has become more than just another Fuzz Face. Fantastic. I'd be tempted to somehow preset the Fuzz control and just use the Attack as my dirt control.

As it is it's a killer fuzz. Way better than the Arctic White I have built before. And I suspect it would make a good base for further experimentation. I like the basic tone of it as-is, but out of curiosity how would you suggest I could increase the mids a bit? I like what is there but have no idea how I would shape the midrange.

The build went well, really enjoy this pedal. v2 is a great evolution from v1, an immensely better pedal. One of the few things I have boxed this year!

First build to get the new Sheepylove faceplate approach. Thanks Dave, this is a fun one.

Beautiful build as always and a clever name.

Both FUZZ & ATTACK affect the overall EQ.
When FUZZ is dimed, C1 dominates the bass & mids. Try making C1 larger, but take small steps.
When ATTACK is dimed, C3 affects the mids & treble, C4 affects the bass & mids. Increasing C3 reduces treble, which can enhance mids. Decreasing C4 reduces bass, which again can have the effect of enhancing mids.
Or you can fiddle C5 - C7 to create a mid hump.

Just found this thread, and synchronicity...

1. I was playing around with BJT to J113 last weekend to see how the J113 behaves going into fuzz like distortion. I was totally unaware of this precedent and hadn't started adding in the tone controls, but now I have something to consider. In my experimentation, though, I really liked how this circuit passed the tone-selection from my guitar through - nothing else I've built has the same drastic difference when I flip from bridge to neck on my stratocaster. BTW J113's were in the penny-parts list at Small Bear, which may have something to do with why I have some to play with.
2. @micmac I just put these Lumex LEDs in my Mouser cart - SSL-LX5093VC. I don't have them yet, so I am not sure how "purple" they are. I am looking to drop them in my Violet Ram's Head Big Muffin clones...

Hello @gtfields13

I found some purple diffused LEDs in the web shop I usually use. Next time I order something I'll add some. They also have violet diffused LEDs, so I'm hoping purple will really be purple.
