Total Recall

So, I might have bitten off a bit more than I could chew with this one and It came and told me so!

Not new to building but still definitely learning I have been inspired but the likes of @Guardians of the analog who has been producing stunning pedals for some time now.

So I decided to get out of my distortion/fuzz comfort zone.

Trying the blue shift and succeeding and things like the duo phase I thought this one would be ok.

Oh how wrong I was. The build was good and I took my time. Measuring each component. @Chuck D. Bones on my shoulder all the way saying check and double check.

I even ordered the correct size enclosure and got it painted by Spencer @amplifyfun.

I was excited to plug it in and go through the calibration but pretty soon hit issues.

I was talking to @MichaelW who was building one at the same time and he hit a similar issue. I put my board to one side to get over the disappointment I couldn’t let it lie though.

So I started with the voltage measurements and all was great apart from IC4. I audio probed and got to the same sort of area.

Then my knowledge ran out. So reaching out on here some very knowledgeable folk helped me narrow it down to a faulty voltage reg (we think!). Three small parts replaced and the thing fired up and makes some amazing noises.

The trouble shooting can be read on the dedicated forum. This is a build report so no need to go any further.

It’s a DMM clone and can get some great delays but also goes into territories I never thought a delay could go. But with out being over the top.

I found the calibration quite easy actually especially with a loop pedal and audio probe.

Very clean and clear and looooooong delays are possible here. Crazy really. All the pots have been super responsive with out being too twitchy.

I’m very much enjoying playing through this , this week. Think it’s a keeper. Right now it’s on my desk as a reminder to keep going no matter what.

Thanks to everyone involved here with helping me. I could not have done it with out you. I would have been stuck ripping off components that probably didn’t need to be removed.

Take your time with this build. Get the right components and get the right enclosure and you will be blessed with an absolute beast of a delay.

Thanks to everyone again. Now as fig would say, go build something.

So, do I add the add on board!?……

Thanks Chris @Guardians of the analog. I don't think Im in the big boys club just yet! Building is one thing, understanding it all is something completely different ;-)

So by clipping R31, I read that its supposed to make it sound even better? Removing the gate on the repeats? Might give that a shot!
Yeah, the gate isn't on the vintage units, just the Reissues. It has a weird way of cutting off repeats really unnaturally.
