Variable Brightness LED Meter on a Compressor?

Hi -

I have a couple compressors in the cue, a 401k and Median, I was curious to see if there way a way to add an LED to represent the amount of compression. While a full LED meter would be great, probably not ideal for a 125b enclosure.

When I was working in studios full time, I never used the meters and just listened but since then, I second guess myself. Also, hard to judge whilst playing sometimes.

It'd be easier to add one to an opto compressor since they're already geared to drive an led. In theory it'd be possible but not sure how easy it'd be to mod an existing pcb for a vca or fet style compressor like the ones you've mentioned

That makes sense.

I know the Origin Effects has a VU, although the knock off has it INSIDE the enclosure. Brilliant!!

Just curious if it is possible.

Hmm, a multicolor GR LED sounds interesting to me. Say, not lit =no GR, green =3dB, yellow=6dB, red >= 10dB. Something like that. With maybe some blue thrown in. Minimal footprint, lots of information.

I am just an idea guy, I need someone else to figure out the how! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Input vs output through a comparator into an ooto driving an LED?
I think you'd have to grab the signal right before and after the gain reduction circuit which could be real easy or overly involved to grab a feed off those signals, depending on circuit architecture.
Probably better done with code and a bi/tricolor led.
