VFE Dark Horse

Geez, I always thought the VFE's were sort of a builder's right of passage. Not ashamed to admit I've built them ALL. I've mastered the art of not torching every cap on the board when you solder in the pots. So everyone except that last two looks like I took a blow torch to the caps

In the end, too many knobs and buttons, but that's part of the VFE mindset. And as noted above you either dig em or you don't.

I do.
Want the bypass board and/or mcu?

Did you know there's a PPCB version of this? (Without all the typical VFE BS?)

Also, I feel you, I bought a bunch of the MPB VFE projects, ordered all the goofy parts, built one of them and will never touch the other ones.
I didn't even post a build report.
It worked, but it sounds like ass and is fugly as hell.

You guys are bumming me out now :)

Here's a few of my fave's. Quick pic so they unfortunately show off some less than stellar paint work but the Pale Horse was one of the few times that a PCB etched plate actually worked for me.

I think most of mine are gonna end up in the trading post

Did I ever tell you guys about the time I threw a Tube Screamer build fully across the yard into my back fence? Probably 30 feet. Felt good, but I decided then and there that such an outburst probably wasn't deserved for something so simple and inconsequential in life, haha. I occasionally get mad when things don't work but mostly I treat them as puzzles. When it don't do what it do, I make it go or let it go for a while.

So much wisdoms.

I really like the VFE stuff I built. A whole lot in a small foot print. That being said, the only drive I built was the Rat variant. The rest was all the delays and filters.

I respect you and your wisdom.

And your throwing arm.

Never tried the vfe stuff but I have a few and more on the way. So this is a wakeup call to have my wits about me when I try them.

I'd pay you to ship the bypass board/mcu @Laundryroom David
I think it’s just a matter of reading the documentation carefully and completely before populating the boards. If I had done that, it would have been a much nicer outcome for this pedal. Also trying to get all the parts, in Canada, without substitutions, took me several months. I waited to order the boards until I had 90% of the components in hand. I’ve worked on tight layouts a billion times and fwiw I didn’t have any trouble until I spotted a messed up box cap value - and it wasn’t even close lol. Then the layout became more of a challenge. I finally almost had the infinitesimal pads clear of the cap legs and one of the little bastards lifted and I lost my shit.

Moral of the story: read the damn docs fully and completely, doublecheck you’ve used the value from the build doc before you commit anything to solder.

I wish you and your VFE builds all the best, my friend. They look awesome and if they do the thing for you, then that’s all that matters.

Respect to Mr Bean and what he said.

I have to say, the times I went full Hulk-Smash mode, it was in relative private.

I've watched Pro-MTB racers lose a race and lose their cool and throw down their bike and stomp on it and I just think:
"What a great way to lose all sponsorships"

Still...
Sometimes, you just have to DESTROY something.

My luck, if I tossed a pedal I'd likely throw it thru a neighbors window and it would cost me a fortune. Or my wife's car and it would be the end of an entire hobby.
