Water slide decal advice

A question for all of you water slide experts. What are the optimal printer settings when printing from photoshop on to decal paper? My knowledge of printer settings is pretty basic. It’s an HP ink jet printer. Thank you

I am not an expert, but here are some suggestions based on my efforts to use an inkjet printer with waterslide decals. others with more suggestions should chime in, but for starters:

if you are printing onto a dark background you need to print on white waterslide decals. printing with clear decals only works if you have a very light color on your pedal.

use vivid colors for your best contrast between the decal and pedal color.

after you print the decal and it dries, you should spray a couple of clear protective sealant coats on the decals before putting them in water or your printed colors will run.

print your test runs onto plain paper until your layout is right.

Thank you for the advice. I just recently learned about the white paper and when to use it. I have both now. I do know about sealing it prior to using it. I was just wondering if there were some printer settings that people prefer over printing standard doc’s etc

set the printer for high quality. see if you have a "vivid" option for printing effects. you may want to increase the contrast in your image settings.

you may want to create a background on your white decal sheet that is the same color as your pedal enclosure. easiest way to do that is to take a picture of the enclosure in good lighting, crop it, and use it as the base image for the white decal print. I usually need to tweak the brightness and contrast of the picture of the case to get a good color match printed.

Awesome thanks. That’s the kind of stuff I’m looking for. I already noticed that I get 2 very different results printing from photoshop when I select between letting photoshop manage the print color or letting the printer manage it. Thanks again
