Waterslide Decal Wording? One long strip or individual words?

I have a strip of text (Gain, Treble, Output) that I just put on one long decal in order to line/center it up better.
If I apply clear coat will the gaps (blank area of decal) be visible or should I somehow trim out those parts before spraying?
--If so any tips on how to cut them out without damaging the bare enclosure?

If you’re not going to start over, I’d say leave it the way it is. You’ll see the strip under the clear coat, but I think it’ll look better than if you scratch it up trying to cut it.

You could try to put a couple clear coats on, and then lightly sand the edges of the film strip so they don't stick up higher than the surrounding surface, then do another couple coats of clear once the surface is level.

What catches your eye is light reflecting off sudden changes in elevation, so if you use the clear coat to establish a uniform surface material, then remove the hard edges where the decal film is underneath the clear, and then finish with another couple coats of clear for good coverage, you should be ok

Oh wait you're asking a different question than the one I answered!

You're seeing the strip being lighter in shade than the surrounding enclosure because it is very slightly opaque compared to the rest of the enclosure which has no film on it. A clear coat may disguise this or may not. I'd bet that it probably won't remove the light coloring completely but it may be less noticeable than it is now. You'd have to try it and see, but to be honest I'd be more concerned with being able to do good surface prep so the clear adheres correctly while not disturbing the label.

Then again perfection is the enemy of progress so just do something and see what happens!
