What’s on *YOUR* workbench?

Putting the final touches on a 24” ride. Might need to do some more hammering to dry out the wash. Gonna let it rest for a while and see what it does.View attachment 108747
WTF is this? I didn't know you could DIY cymbals! Other than finding random things to smash that sound good. But then again, I guess, why not...

Very nice, sir, very nice indeed. Quite the Renaissance man of musical implements, I perceive.

Edit: Is it a lathe type of situation, or mods to an existing cymbals?

It’s alive!…. Amp was cutting out and farting out really bad last week… sounded horrible. I dove in and replaced all the electrolytic caps and managed to get it all back together… First time working on an amp…. Honestly it was like working on a big pedal…. Just got done firing it up and it’s totally fine now.. Haven’t played it in years and it’s a bit more gainy and raspy than I remember…. Soon as the gain is at 2 it overdrives a ton…. I wish it was cleaner for sure. IMG_8965.jpeg

Man, I totally forgot about Jet City Amps. A couple of years back I was thinking about getting a 100HDM as a cheap SLO alternative, then they closed shop and I forgot all about it. It seems used those are still pretty cheap though, so maybe I'll get one afterall.

The build quality of the amp impressed me... The pcb was very thick and 2 sided.. all the components were decent quality inside. The caps were only 10 years old but they had a hard life..... I've left a few times from where I had it stored at church and left the joker turned on for a week...... Happened at least 2-3 times. Probably why the caps were cooked. The soldering was pretty good too... I reflowed all the tube sockets while i was in there just to be safe...

I tore down the harmonic tremolo and built a two-stage Magnatone vibrato circuit with JFETs in place of the tubes and nsl32-sr3 vactrols as the voltage controlled resistors.

The linearization efforts give it a nice sweep without any "seasickness." I'm pretty surprised by the performance. I've been through more than a couple vibrato pedals and this is a pretty close second to the Origin Effects MAGMA. These vactrols are $4 a pop, though, and I'm really curious if I can get it working well with the 3 N-channel mosfets in a CD4007.
