The title says it all. I made a demo recently for someone trying to showcase the sound of the pedal and in my opinion it sounds like crap. Which ultimately makes my pedal sound like crap.

Just want a good microphone any suggestions? Any and all suggestions welcome!

Ok maybe I stick to the Shure. Those kits are no joke I would love one but I need to sell a leg first. 🤣 The one I want is 900 bucks….

A 57 is a great option for a simple, reliable electric guitar mic that will sound decent-to-excellent on most amps. It has a strong presence peak which is flattering on a lot of guitars. Can't go wrong for $99 or whatever a new one costs.

sE make a really nice line of affordable mics, and I think the V7X is a particular standout - a better overall mic than the SM57, about the same price, and more flattering to a wider range of sources. The frequency plot looks like a 1:1 copy of a beyerdynamic M88, which is arguably one of the best sounding/most versatile dynamic mics ever made. I've tried the V7X out on snare top, toms, guitar cabs, bass cabs, and inside kick and it works well in all of those spots.

The more common sE V7 (no 'x' designation) is designed as a live performance vocal mic and would also be a fantastic electric guitar mic; it's similar to an SM57/58 but with a less pronounced presence peak and (I think?) a slightly tighter polar pattern. My pal who's a touring FOH guy for a bunch of bands bought 24 of them, 1 for every singer in every band he works with.

If you're recording to a computer/DAW, and you're looking for accurate pedal demos, you might consider going DI through your interface and using an amp sim. In the year 2023 they are VERY good.
