What's in the mailbox? 📬 📦

I liked the ART I had, just got ticked it imploded when I tried to change the tube. The PCB was the only support for the tube -- just barely trying to barely wiggle the tube snapped the PCB without the tube even budging. So don't try that is all I meant.

I have a couple of ribbon mics that are gain hungry AF. They are dead silent but quiet. Trying to get a signal out of them requires mucho gain. So I finally broke down and bought this today. I think they said the gain was 70db. Yeah, that'll do it.

When new these were really expensive. Used ones go for 4-5 hundred. I couldn't click on buy it now fast enough!!!!

Can't wait!

Yeah, 65-70db is minimum entry for nonactive ribbons unless they're on cabs/drum rooms. I can't recall who, AEA maybe?, but someone made a ribbon specific pre at one point with 90dB gain. Anyone want to listen to crickets fart through a sm57? I sold off all my ribbons except a pair from this company called Aston. They haven't made them for years and I don't think made them too long so, no ody wants them. I'll keep them before auctioning them for peanuts.
That focusrite looks like a pretty flexible piece of kit, especially for that price! The variable impedance could be awesome with ribbons too! Linked compressor and a limiter to boot! Curious if it's "clean wire with gain" style pres or if they're going for the more colored ISA sound.

Not in my mailbox yet but stoked to share.
Sniped a MIJ 1992 RG550 neck and MIJ 88-92 RG560 body off of reverb for 120. Seller says that color 560.was only made in 88..
That should be a Fujigen Wizard 1 neck! They've been sitting in a closet for 15 years. As long as it's not splinteringly dry, that neck will make my year for that price. Unless you hate thin necks, I highly advise you play a wizard 1 if you get the chance. They feel so effeortless. So many are in landfills or gibsoned themselves to an early grave, that they're getting stupid pricey. Screenshot_20240226-003544-590.png

I'm absolutely in love with these. They're self adhesive pretend jewel lights but I think they look cool. Somehow I managed to order small so will have to get some large ones to check them out.

And chucked on my old lovepedal eternity build.

Looks cool. How do they attach? Is it like the amp jewel ones where its a nut to screw on the other side? Or is it adhesive.

EDIT: I just saw the link, it goes over top. Neat.

Yeah you just peel off the backing and stick them on. I still want to use a real jewel light for a build I've got coming up but I think these look much better than regular led bezels.

Time will tell how long they last just stuck on the top though.

The crazy thing is that they are supposed to "dampen" the LED, but your pictures at the top make the LED look brighter with the jewel on. Either way, it's an awesome upgrade, looks great, and requires no drilling, so you don't have to take your finished enclosed apart to drill/install a jewel.

Plus, I'm sure that black jewel looks awesome when the LED is off

The led wasn't on in the first pic. It didn't really dim it so much as diffuse it tbh.

I'll still be sticking with my stealth leds under the envirotex for most builds but will definitely use these for anything that needs a led bezel.

Well, guess it won't be in my mailbox. Seller refunded my money without any message. I guess at least I had the self control to not start ordering parts already... 😡
It really sucks when it's something that's really hard to find and at a low price, and allofasudden you get a refund. Like, hey I want the 2 hours back that I spent looking for this.... And then you go back to buy the one you skipped, and it's gone too.

¡ARGH!

yeah, that's the price for the single channel version. Good score!

I know. The weird part is that when I searched for it with part of it's own description, it wouldn't come up. Good thing I had 'watched' it. Only the more expensive one's showed up in the search. I had found it searching for something else. Maybe that's why the price was reduced. I was worried that the seller might cancel, but it's been shipped! Yay. By the time taxes and freight were added it was $313.52....

Really looking forward to some quality acoustic recording.... The ribbon mics are Royer clones, 1 micron ribbons....

That blows bro, sorry to hear that.

I had someone ask for a refund a day or two after they bought my Chroma Console. Luckily I was out of town and didn't send it out yet. Luckily people are busting a nut over that pedal and it sold to someone else less than an hour after I reposted it.

That sucks sorry dude.
Yep. Thanks. A MIJ 550 neck just listed a few hours ago for 500 tokens! And it's frets have been mowed down...
Always wanted one and been missing having a tremolo system. May just have to suck it up and get my old 98 520Q refretted or leveled. But it's a II... I could never get that thing *right* though. But they're not worth the $ to put a legit good Floyd in and paying a good luthier to setup.

That's frustrating. You're definitely right to not pump money into a guitar you couldn't get on with in the past. Your best bet is probably to set up some saved searches and just bite the bullet when a good condition one comes along that's remotely affordable. If the prices are going up then your problem is just going to get worse.

Sucks man. Sniping a good deal on a MIJ RG is good. I feel like prices on the used market are stupid sometimes. Still pissed about the seller not making amends on an RG420MIJ in purple because their packing sucked and smashed in the volume knob.

I'll stop derailing after this. I swear.
My only issue with getting an original is heavily modding it. Those late 80s ones are getting to *that* point where modding/upgrading won't add value. I'm in no rush but have been watching for a few years now. Just bummed that the opportunity passed in such a a sh*tty way. Yeah. The seller WAY underpriced it, but a consilation "FU, I was dumb" could have been had
