What's your current headache?

I wear a mask any time I do yard work, the amount of dust, pollen, etc. That gets kicked up is unreal. I share your corner lot pain. The 50ft. oaks out front only dropped maybe 25% of their leaves so far.
Yep, I have a good stash of M95i masks that I use. Then afterward I take off those clothes and immediately shower it off, like I’m being processed for decontamination or as a new prisoner.

Our last place in town was a corner lot with 100-ish year old maples and it was nasty doing all that work. Now that I live in the city I strangely do miss the process but my back and allergies certainly thank me.

Back in the covid days I came in from a day of raking on a late November day feeling stuffed up and crappy and wrote it off as allergies. Turns out I was one of the first people I'd heard of getting covid. My wife was going thru immuno therapy for lung cancer at the time and I'm surprised she didn't bury me in a pile of leaves somewhere.

We moved and I have been wanting to setup my work area in the shop but I need to build a shed to move all of our holiday decorations, keepsakes, ect stuff to. We had been going back and forth on building one or getting a premade one. Last weekend we decided to build one and I designed it. Went to the store to buy the stuff and pulled my FCU lifting a sheet of plywood. I still have mobility it just hurts too much to do anything with it. I have worked hard and had quite a few fractures but never a soft tissue injury like this.

It’s been hard as it has forced me to slow down. Playing guitar hurts, I can’t do woodworking, no gardening, no working one the house. I keep having to have my kids do jobs around the house that are normally mine. I’m hoping I feel good enough to build some pedals when my Tayda order gets here soon. I think I have just been going too hard for too long. Hoping I can learn to relax some. I’m expecting to be mostly better in 3-5 weeks.

I feel thankful that I am still able to manage at work, mostly the computer and phone calls these days, and that I have people around who are able to help keep things going.

Also, who else hates trees and autumn?

Sweet diesel!

My parents had a green 240d when I was little. It was slow and rusty and didn’t start in the winter. I think my dad hated it, but I remember being really sad when it got hauled off to the junkyard. I think I still have the keys somewhere.

My dad immigrated to the US in ‘65 when his dad came over to work as a mechanic in the first wave of dealerships that Mb opened up here. Opa always drove a wagon like yours.

I'd drive it more but the A/C doesn't work and the SLS struts were replaced by regular shocks making speed bumps feel horrendous!

Boy do I have a new headache! If you are on the east coast of the US you may be familiar with the gas company, National Grid. Well, about 2 years ago after we bought our house, we started renovation and decided to convert the place from two family to single. At that time NatGrid came to lock the second floor gas line and took the meter. Except they took the wrong meter! They even came later to inspect the work and didn’t notice. Then a couple months ago they sent us a letter saying that they needed to repossess the meter for the 2nd floor, which I had assumed until then that it was the one for our house. I called them about a dozen times, and I even called the law firm that sent me letters on their behalf. Nobody had any idea how to fix this problem (reactivating the account for the 2nd floor? Impossible. Attaching the meter physically present at the house to our account? Impossible). They never even acknowledged the fact that they screwed up. Eventually they told me that the solution would be to install a completely new meter to fix the problem. They came on Sunday and the guy was about to replace the meter when his supervisor told him not to. A second tech came yesterday to do an “investigation” (whatever that means) and had no idea about the request to install a new meter. Then today three more people from NatGrid came and just took the meter, leaving us with no heat or hot water in November (we have two kids). After my wife complained to them for an hour, one of the guys claimed to have set up the installation of a new meter today. I am very skeptical that that’s gonna happen since I was told on the phone that we have been “technically” stealing gas because the meter was not attached to our account even though we have been paying the bill (using an estimate). I’m so furious right now and I am wondering if I should sue their ass.

You’re wondering if you should sue? You’re about a day late on that. Get on that first thing tomorrow, that’s ridiculous. How could no one at all know what the hell is going on???

Yeah I emailed a lawyer today but I may have to find a few more because apparently litigating NatGrid is not something any lawyer will do, big company with deep pockets and all... This has been completely insane. The display of incompetence at every turn is staggering. My hunch is that they did not want to admit their mistake and/or they have no process to correct this type of error but nobody would tell me that and instead they just let the problem rot until they had to do something drastic. These companies are all monopolies so they couldn't care less about good-- no, decent, minimal, barely acceptable-- service. I had a day. And on this day!

Those bastards. They know you can’t switch companies, so they have you. Maybe you can get a lawyer to make some phone calls, just to maybe get something at least started.

In the "No good deed goes unpunished" department. An old flame of mine that I see on Facebook called me at about 6pm that someone had 'compromised' her bank account according to Chase bank. So they closed it. Meaning she cannot pay for groceries, and SHE'S OUT. She called me in a tizzy, crying and sounding very frightened and worried. Freaked me out.

She had been waiting for the SSA to deposit her monthly payment, and the account was somehow hacked right afterwards, so they're going to mail the check to her but can't tell her how long it's going to take. wtf?!?! Like why didn't they open a new account or what???? She's opened a new account with a different bank in preparation for the 'check in the mail'.

So I ordered a pizza dinner (pizza, pasta, garlic bread, etc) and a couple 2L cokes for her since she hadn't eaten IN TWO DAYS and had no water; she's in the mountains and was just getting ready to order a 4000 gallon refill for her tank.

The next day I get in my truck and go shopping to tune of $250 and drive up to that LONG BUMPY DIRT ROAD that leads to her house. While I'm going up the steeper inclines my transmission keeps jumping into overdrive instead of low so I had to manually shift.

And everything was good, she was crying with happiness when I arrived.

I get in my truck and the power steering is going in and out sporadically, but then starts working well when I finally get to the pavement. AND then power steering goes completely out and then BEEEEEEEEEEEP the 'check gauges' light goes on, and I'm overheating. I pull over and check and the *effing fan belt is gone*

A couple buttons on my Geico app later I get a tow ordered.

My mechanic called me with the bad news a couple hours ago. The belt came off because the water pump had like 4" of play in it. But that's not all folks. The power steering pump is also shot. And the front end needs like 7 parts. And and and and THE TRANSMISSION IS COOKED.

AAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!

So about $500 each for the pumps, $1000 for the front end, and $3000 for a new warranted transmission from Mopar. The numbers include labor and taxes, so a cool $5 GRAND to get my RAM truck up to snuff. The engine runs like a top tho, YAY!

Just to get groceries for a friend.... I've already tapped out my 401k for the year, so I have to wait till after Jan 1st to pull the cash out to pay off the credit card. Looks like my yearly "rewards" on that card is about to jump way up!

It's only money..... The look on her face when I showed up at the front door after not seeing her for 49 years was worth every penny.

Well...

Shit. Let's just call it "The Powell Memo".

Our brains are so cooked. Probably a good time to knuckle down and finish my concept album about the penguins using their cute, cuddly, and endearing nature to lull humanity into letting our guard down so they can brutally, mercilessly slaughter us all. For vengeance.

Tentatively titled "Unhappy Feet".

Currently on the phone with National Grid again. They are claiming that we have been stealing gas so they can’t give us a new meter until that’s “resolved”.

She's obviously cursed and you should stay away. ;)
Had a Dodge mechanic tell em one time that, at least with earlier RAMS--dont know about new ones, Dodge actually designed the truck to have the transmission swapped every 100k. The thought process being that after 100k of use(as a truck, not a lot queen), it would be due. So it's designed for easy drop and swap. The issue is that no body actually does it. $5k for a Mopar transmission swap ain't bad. Probably that low because it's so little labor.

Thank you. NIH "should" be safe but plans call for reducing the federal workforce by 1,000,000 which is just south of 50% of the entire force. The only thing I can think of keeping them from doing that is putting that many people on employment outright is not a good look.

Wonder what that's gonna look like under Director Robert F Kennedy Jr.

Er, no, he's gonna be above the director.

Top priorities include "getting America off seed oils". Oh, and vaccines. Boy, I'm glad he's gonna be there to ensure the return of whooping cough and measles.

It's not like this kind of approach to science has caused problems in the past.

Toodle doo. Pop! Chicken's done. Our brains are cooked, cooked, cooked
