Yeesh. I feel ya. Part of the technoslopification of all things seems to be entirely in the manufacturer's interest:

The difficulty of repairs makes replacement far more likely when something breaks.

Nice idea. What's that gonna be, rollers? Huh. I'm imagining heavy duty bearings and a huge pain in the ass.

Woof. The little scion is basically a Mazda 2, gets a decent 35mpg. Had to buy that thing as an emergency replacement for my old Mazda 3 that only got 20mpg and experienced a water pump failure on the freeway.

I hate cars. I'm a building mechanic, dammit. I like working in places where I have enough room to swing a wrench.

More, at least with newer vehicles.

It's a sliding curve. The older the car, the less swearing is required until you reach the rust-point — point at which every nut, bolt, screw, fastener is rusted tight, nee FUSED to its attachment point. Then the swearing increases again exponentially.


New cars are easy to work on...
...Once you remove 15 lbs of plastic-shielding/brackets/braces/covers/support... where was I? OH yes, 15 lbs of plastic removed for every mechanical part you need to access. Shut down the computer system disconnect the battery. Remove more plastic, video-tape how each bit jigsaws apart so you can jigsaw fit it all back togethe. After 2-3 days of plastics removal, support brackets and inter-related sub-sections dismantling you should finally be ready to remove the engine.

You didn't actually think you'd be able to work on the engine while it's in its engine-bay, did you? 😹 Dream on.
 
As much as I sweated, swore, and bled working on my Jeep, I miss it, I'll admit. Working on my TDI is a bit different. It's more like working out differential calculus than brute forcing the E-socket bolts Chrysler used to attach block to transmission bell housing. The cam lock pins have to be plumb dead aligned to the guide holes or they will not go in. The 4.0L Jeep block could be fixed with swears and a hammer, while the TDI needs feeler gauges to pop the hood.
 
So I went a pretty long time without a job (June 2023). Landed a fantastic union job. I have no dependents besides cats who I spoil rotten. My headache is what gear do I buy as a treat to myself? 😂 I’m good on guitars, pedals I can build…an amp would be the choice logically as I only have a Marshall origin 5. Clean and loud is what I want. I have an old peavey 2x15 I’m gonna get speakers for.

I know I sound like a douche who has pretty good but it’s been a long long time coming, and we should all be so fortunate. hashtag blessed or whatever.

That's a good headache to have. Nice to hear some good news in these dark times!
 
I have de quervain’s tenosynovitis in my right (dominant) hand so bad right now. Even simple things like writing can be brutally painful. Had it a few years ago in my left.

I developed it this time from repetitive bad hand movements while painting tattoo flash, which is a traditional part of a tattoo apprenticeship which I am in the beginning of after working in the industry most of my adult life. I had been painting in pretty much every second of free time I had.

I feel completely sidelined and dejected. I had seen a lot of improvement in my technical painting ability (garbage to decent) and had already started to daydream about better financial situations. I’m more than comfortable, but tattooers almost always earn more than shop managers.

It’s a chickens coming home to roost moment. Nothing worse than the consequences of my own actions.
 
The funny part is that guy doing demos on a 335...cause I really have the idea in my head to get an Epi BB King Lucille and play doom on it. Stereo outs on the guitar for a dual amp rig. I'm a big dude so I need a big guitar that doesn't look like a damn toy in my hands and that really fits the bill.
 
One small annoying thing about English compared to Finnish is that the equivalent for "head" is used both as "head" and as "end" (English has a massive vocabulary compared to a lot of languages), so you can make puns about "bottom head aches" basically. But no way I can think of to do something similar in English.

What I'm saying is that I had a vasectomy done yesterday and I would like to make a pun about it. Thankfully it's not very painful when at rest and I work in IT remotely, but all movements have to be very careful.
