Why are people like this?

I was graced with this a couple weeks ago:

"Hello!

Your page description mentioned you sometimes entertain petition projects. I've struck out in the past with this particular request so I thought I'd take it to the net!

I am a big fan of the Nobels ODR-1 and love the huge crush of bass that pedal provides. I first found this sound in the Browne Protein's right side, but aside from being unwieldy (attached to another circuit, too big), the way that pedal is voiced causes cave-in so I get lost in the mix when I really should be selling a huge second verse after a chorus with lift. This has been an elusive tone for whatever reason; Browne's standalone right side of the Protein, the Atom, lacks headroom. Other "ODRs" like the XTS Imperial Overdrive don't sound like an ODR-1 to me for this purpose. Even the Nordland ODR-CC+, which is by all reports the new-and-improved ODR-1 doesn't do it, and that one even has a bass control. Right now I use an ODR-Mini at 18 volts. But personally I could use more bass!

Most people don't know what I'm talking about when I try to describe this so hopefully this isn't an insane-sounding message. If I had to articulate, it's like a "goooounnn" or a big boulder of sound. Anyways, if you're willing to take a stab at a bass-y boom-y ODR-1, let me know!"

Where to even start...

Take a dud pcb that didnt work out.... Goop it.. Wire a CLR resistor to DC jack and footswitch. Wire in and out jacks straight through... instant Boutique toans with goop nostalgia. Give it a fancy name..

I've been waiting for someone to ask me to build them a Kim Deal-in-a-box so I could do just that.

“I use a compressor, but only because sound guys seem to like it when I have one onstage, even if it’s on bypass,” said Kim Deal to Guitar Player in 1991. “I don’t know what kind – it’s black with red lights.”

I can get AT LEAST $350 for my (current) dud Flintlock.

I loved that interview! And the way she wanted to record her amp with a mic but they wanted to record direct.
