Why does nobody use these outtie DC jacks?

Atleast I haven’t seen anyone use except Skreddy in the past. Not sure if he still uses them. Seems to me that these would be more practical than the standard thin line that require 100lbs of pressure to insert the plug. They’d give you a little extra room to work with and you could also take your board out without desoldering. Is there a ground issue while using them or something? If not I believe I’m gonna try them.

You can put a jack on the nut on the inside of the enclosure to keep the jack from protruding as far out.

I used to use them. Many many years ago they were kind of the diy/boutique standard. But the days of battery clips and building outside of the box are long gone.

The actual lumberg thinline jacks aren't that hard to insert the plug. Only the knockoffs are like that

That’s what I do on all of my builds. It looks clean and it makes it very easy to remove from the enclosure in the event that you need to troubleshoot or modify anything.

The exposed threads are ugly and most of my builds need the small lumberg jack anyway. Desoldering isn't hard and why have two of something when one do job?

That little bit sticking out the back must be a problem on TIGHT boards? Guess I’m one of the few that’s not bothered by the exposed threads…or maybe it’s just been a while since I’ve seen them. I’ve only ever seen them on Skreddy pedals but that was a while ago.

there is one other benefit to these--more of a beneficial flaw.
If that nut falls off, the jack deposits itself into the enclosure forcing the user to fix it or get it fixed by someone.
If an innie nut falls off, many will keep rocking that shit until a wire breaks or it starts shorting the power supply, both possibly causing a larger repair that tightening a nut.

i first got the idea when i saw your builds.
and i feel its absolutely worth it when shit goes wrong.
yes desoldering isn’t hard, but when you’re at that stage of the build and getting thrown by an error, being able to just pull the whole thing out is pretty valuable and absolutely reduces frustration at times when you’re already losing patience
