Why doesn’t everyone use 9mm pots?!?

At one point, I thought of swapping over to 9mm exclusively, but that would mean learning to lay out my own PCBs and having to offboard wire existing PCBs laid out for 16mm. As for 12mm, I've only ever seen them spec'd in BYOC kits.

How about 9mm trim-pots?

My friend's Tube Zone OD is back on my repair bench.

It originally came to me with crackling pots, I reflowed all the pots solder-joints suspecting a couple had cracked leaving them with intermittent contact. After reflowing, it seemed okay and I sent it back to my friend. Pretty much immediately he had problems.

Seems to be the trim-pots themselves, with the "knobs" wiggling about even though they're secure to the PCB —
and the crackling continues. SO...

I'm going to spray them with DeOxIT AGAIN, and if that doesn't do it...
I'm thinking of swapping out the 9mm trim-pots for 9mm threaded-collar proper pots and use Davies-1900 clone-knobs.

Any comments/experience from others on this is welcomed.
